Default Pre op diet weight loss

Hi guys! I'm new here! Having surgery next Monday 8/21. I'm on day 8 of pre op diet and I lost 7 pounds the first couple of days but really haven't lost anything since then. This diet is so hard and only consuming 800 calories I thought I would lose some each day. Anyone else have this problem?

You are almost there! I was banded 8/7 and the pre-op was one of the hardest thing i had to do, but I did it and I know you can also. When I look back I feel so much better because I did something that I didnt fail at! Hang in there!!!

So...understanding what the pre op diet is for should make it easier for you to be on it. This diet is strictly used to shrink your liver. A smaller liver makes the VSG procedure much easier to perform. Part of the stomach that is removed actually sits under the liver and when the liver is smaller, the access to that part of the stomach is also easier. That's it. It's not a test to see how well you are going to do post op and should not be used as a measuring stick to gauge future success.

Your body is currently rebelling against a perceived attack via starvation and that's why you aren't losing. It's called a stall. If anything, this is a positive sign as it gives you info for when you are sleeved. There's a really good chance that you're going to be one of the ones that will battle stalls during your trip. If you know that going in, you can make a plan to help avoid stalls and also to bust them if you should get them. Lots of info on this very subject on my profile page if you're interested.

Don't bother weighing yourself again until surgery day. There's really no reason.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

I can't really add anything else except for me, the pre-op moved along quicker when I thought about other things. You are on your way to a new life... and this part is necessary to have a successful surgery. xo

It's all about the liver shrinking in those days immediately before surgery. I was on a pre op DIET (as in eating only certain foods, per the nutritionist and surgeon) for THREE months before, and drinking that God-awful clear protein drink 10 days before) and lost 42 pounds. That was really a huge PLUS to shed weight. I am thankful now I had to go that route. It helped me immensely to prepare my mind and body for what was to come with my new sleeved life.

    Height: 5'8"
    Highest Weight: 270 BMI 40.3
Day of Surgery Weight: 223 / Pre-Op nutrition diet: LOST 47 pounds
1 Month Weight: 202 (-21 lbs.) TOTAL LOST: 64 pounds
2 Month: Weight: 188 (-14 lbs.) TOTAL LOST: 78 pounds
    6 Month Weight: 169 (-2) BMI: 25.7 TOTAL LOST: 97 pounds
