    Default Sipping and Exercising

I haven't had my surgery yet. However, I am curious as to how everyone handles being thirsty while they work out and not gulping water. I am someone who chugs water during a work out session. Keep in mind, I keep myself fairly hydrated at around 64oz/day of water. Do you guys just continually drink the whole time you are working out?

    Thanks for all the comments

You'll be surprised how much you can sip-sip-sip. And remember also that the very slow sipping only lasts for the first month or so. Gradually, as your esophagus relaxes and your sleeve starts to heal and the post-op swelling goes down, you'll be able to drink more at a time. Within a few months you'll be able to have real drinks (not sips). By six months you'll be drinking even more, faster. Between 6-12 months you'll find little difference between pre- and post-op drinking.

At least this is how it went for me.

    Very best wishes!

The sipping phase only lasts for the first few weeks post-op.

I'm 2+ years out. I arrived home from the gym a little over 1 hour ago. Immediately after my workout I gulped a 16-ounce bottle of water until I finished it within a few minutes.

I don't drink water during my workouts because it slows me down. It would break my momentum to pause for water when I'm running at 7 miles per hour or cycling at 14.5 miles per hour on the stationary bike.

I started working out around 6 weeks out. I sip during my work out but still managed to get in 24 ounces during a workout.
Now I drink about 32 during a workout. I can sometimes chug, sometimes I still have to sip. It's funny, some days things go down easy and other days not so much.

I drink before and after my workouts. I usually chew gum while working out to keep my mouth moist. I have done that my whole life, though.

I always chugged and it was hard to get used to it before surgery. (Yes, I practiced sipping during my 3 month pre op diet). I notice now (5 months out) that I can suck down MORE water easily. But that first month was a challenge. I'd get thirsty and forget... and it was painful... not to mention, messy!
