Default How do I avoid becoming scale obsessed?

I am 3 days away from my surgery and since I have been on liquids I find myself weighing in a few times a day. I know that it will continue on after and I am really trying to curb this obsessive behavior now. Do I hide the scale? Do I have my husband put it out of my reach (I'm short) and only bring it down on weigh days? What do you all do to avoid becoming scale obsessed??

I like being able to weigh once a day (I never got into weighing several times a day -- after I pee and weigh nekkid first thing in the morning the weight's only going to go up, so no way would I climb up on it again until the next morning).

You should do whatever makes YOU comfortable. You can even give the scale away and weigh only at the doctor's office. There aren't any rules about this.

Personally, I was never scale-obsessed. Since my rate of weight loss was so slow, I only weighed myself once a month.

If weighing in too frequently is becoming an obsessive behavior for you, there's no reason to have a scale in the house at all. Some of the forum members on this site do not own scales and only know how much they weigh at doctors visits.

Welcome, and good luck to you.

I am 8 days post op and I do the same as Ann2. I get up in the morning, pee, strip to birthday suit and get on the scale. I've done this for years and will continue to do so. When I was gaining I wasn't as strict. I could skip a few days but now that I am losing for good, I LOVE seeing the numbers go down! Just set up some boundaries for yourself. Once a day, once a week, at doctors office,, whatever makes you happy.

I weigh myself in the morning and before bed. Like Ann says...no real rules other than what makes you feel comfortable!
