Welcome Steve
1. Order Gas X strips online .. Strips not pills. Many local pharmacies don't carry the Strips. They are a must have. Bring more than you need and you will have many friends!!
2. Ween yourself off caffeine BEFORE starting the pre-op diet. If you drink a lot of caffeine the withdraw headaches can be painful.
3. Don't Tell too many of your friends/family unless they need to know. Many don't take it well.
4. Don't be nervous. You choose a great Doctor . He did me and my whole family already. : )
Good Luck.

Welcome! I also had Dr. Almanza do the surgery in January and he and the entire staff were great! As PokerGuy said, the gas strips are definitely important. I didn't understand what those were when first coming to the forum because I'd never heard of them, they're just little dissolvable strips that taste like peppermint. And the gas was the worst part of recovery for me so those little strips were definitely a helper. And definitely walking around. Even when you're hooked up to the IV just walk with your little stand around the surgery center, every hour. I promise it will help get that gas moving. Take some of those little broth cubes so if you're waiting at the airport you can have broth, you can get hot water from any of the little coffee stands pretty easily. Good luck with everything!
Two things I think you need to do to prep is to get a small throw pillow that you will use to hold against your stomach when you move post-op. It helps, a lot. Second, take terrible pictures pre-op. In the worst light from the worst angles and showing all your bumps, lumps and rolls. It will be a great comparison for how far you have come and give you motivation when things get tough or hit a stall. Finally, take your measurements and store them in Baritastic or some other app.
