Default 3 weeks out, and I can eat almost anything

Yeah I know, I know. I kind of slipped up. But along the way I discovered that if I eat slow and chew things well, I can eat almost anything. My issue is, I am a little worried that I can eat almost anything. I have lost 25 pounds (from 350 pounds to 325 pounds) in three weeks since the surgery. I eat about 800 to 1000 calories a day.

I have already started eating chicken, granola bars, pasta, fish, you name it. I even had part of a taco shell. I chewed it well and it went down fine. I should technically still be in the puree stage but I am not, and I really can't go back.

Should any of this be a cause for concern or am I just one of the lucky ones who can stomach (no pun intended) moving to more solid foods faster than most?

Yeah, this is cause for concern.

It means you're willing to eat anything. Even now. Three weeks post-op.

Just because you can eat doesn't mean you should. This is the most important time to follow the food progression and give your stomach time to heal. Heck, if you want, you could eat ice cream and cookies all day long.

I wouldn't start out with figuring out what I can eat and follow the recommended progression. You can do it!

The way your eating is nothing to brag about. If you want to beat obesity once and for all you need to follow your food plan. Rushing the stages is not acceptable. I would recommend meeting with a nutritionist and learning again how you should eat and what you should eat. You are at high risk of failing. Sorry if this seems harsh. I wish you much success.

I never had problems with any foods. That being said, you need to follow the rules. And most carby foods go down easy and don't fill you up. Seems like a dangerous way to start your sleeved life. Also, your stomach is still healing and at risk for leaks. Be careful. Remember proteins first. Carbs should be low on the totem pole. Now is the time to change your bad habits. I know it's a lot of tough love but we all want to see you succeed.

Wow. I don't even know what to say. DON'T DO THIS.

Do not ruin this opportunity you have. Follow the plan and you will lose weight and be free of the medical issues associated with obesity. The sleeve will not work if you eat whatever you want, and if you eat all this when you are supposed to be in the puree / liquid stage you can hurt yourself.

    DO NOT DO THIS!!!

What's next when this fails? Bypass? Then what?

The people that fail are the ones who don't change their habits and don't follow the rules. You are headed for failure. Sorry to be so blunt but just trying to give you some tough love. You need to starting eating pureed foods again. It is tough I know but look at the big picture.

I can't even imagine eating all that. I'm still eating soups protein drinks. Nothing major. Tried tuna is good but anything nope nope. And I feel like this person is a troll just trying to get people that are taking the opportunity of having a sleeve seriously all riled up... Don't think this is real.....

    Not a troll.

I was not bragging about anything and did not mean to come off that way. I am simply here to see if there are any dangers to this and could use some guidance from fellow sleevers.

I am going to go back to puree foods for another week. I have been smart about this. I have stayed away from all junk food like cookies, chips, ice cream, candy etc. All that has happened is that I am eating some things a couple weeks before I should. Chicken and fish are things I will eat eventually, I just tried them too soon.

I would try to find a therapist to talk about food issues. Pasta, chips, etc are slider foods. I'm sure we can all eat them. I can say most of us just don't.

Sorry if this sounds rude, it is not meant in that spirit. But you ARE eating "junk". Taco, pasta...stuff that you are not supposed to be eating yet (unless your Bariatric group has that stuff on the list).
This is a lifestyle change. Your whole mindset has to change. I am also a little over 3 weeks out. And I have eaten HORRIBLY all of my life! So, I get it!! It is hard to change! But we were given this amazing gift!! A second chance to do it right! The sleeve is the tool to help us get to where we want to be! Its not that you will NEVER be able to have a taco again. But things have to happen in stages in order to work. You have been doing it YOUR way for a long time, right? That is what led you to having such an invasive surgery. Now is the time to re-learn, and do it the RIGHT way!
Your stomach is still healing. Even though you probably feel pretty back to normal, you have to give your new tummy time to heal internally. And you have to give your brain time to catch up. "Fake it til you make it!" Right now, follow the rules. Then, after a year, you can color outside of the lines a little.
If a year seems too daunting a task (it is for me!), then follow the rules today. Then...tomorrow, do the same thing! Soon, you will have created the habit and it wont be so difficult!

I wish you the best of luck. YOU CAN DO THIS!! It's all in your mind!

Thank you to all who have posted on this thread. I too am 3 weeks out. Sometimes the protein is difficult to eat. I get the gurgles when I eat anything and after a few bites pretty much give up. It helps to slow down which I'm working on. I have been tempted to eat more of the pureed cauliflower I made to go with my fish cause it goes down easier. Your posts have given me a kick in the butt to do it right! Thanks!!!!!!!

    Good man!

And low-nutrient carbs like pasta and taco shells are serious no-nos for the weight-loss phase. They really will trip you up. "Good" carbs (nutritious ones) like colored veggies and (eventually) non-starchy fruits and (eventually after that) a few whole grains are what you'll be focusing on for the first (at least) six months.

BTW, I'm hope you weren't horribly offended by my curt response above. I just wanted you to know how far afield you could wander if you continued in that direction.
