Default Hooked up for sleep study!

I have about 2 dozen wires connected to me! Feeling pretty nervous that I won't be able to sleep tonight. At least I am able to do the study at home. Were you able to sleep the night of your study? I am feeling happy that it's one more test checked off my list. After I finish this and my support group meeting, all I have left is losing 10 pounds before I can move to phase 2 of my program. Which is the last phase . My insurance requires 6 stinking months of nutrition follow-ups before they clear you for surgery. I started in June. Hopefully it goes by quickly!

Hopefully it goes by quickly. I started my journey with insurance in May of 2016 and had my surgery in November of 2016. I was soooo eager to get it done. I am glad I did it and the only reason I am glad I went the insurance route is because I have great after care with my surgeon's office. Other than that, I would have saved time and money to just go to Mexico. As for the sleep study, I was not required to do one. I see you are kind of similar to me. I am 4'11" and was 207 at my first weigh in with my nutritionist. By the time I had gone through my 6 months of managed weight loss I was 187 on the date of surgery. Reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you Christie13. Yep only 5'1 lol. I'm also Italian . Well half. Dr. Wants me to get to 208 to qualify for surgery. It's coming off very slowly lol. It's time consuming to do it through insurance, but it makes the most sense for me. I will also receive great follow up care . Congratulations on your journey! You're so tiny now!!!

I'm shorter by an inch and was much heavier. I'm half mexican. The waiting period was the best way to go for me as well. Take this time to really change your eating habits. It really helped me before and now after surgery. Hope your sleep study well!

You re very lucky that you get to do the study at home. Both times I've been tested it was in a hospital on one of their super comfy hospital beds but I still slept a bit off an on.

If the program does it right, you will be so glad you went through those six months. They should explain to you the reasons we fight an uphill battle in weight loss and how seriously you should take the whole process. It does seem like such an unnecessary hoop to jump through but I am so glad I did it now as I am approaching my one year anniversary from surgery.

Just soak in as much information as you possibly can. Ask every question you think is dumb or you feel silly asking it is your time and your future.

I also did an at home sleep study. The results were quite an eye opener. I had severe sleep apnea!

The only thing that I was unhappy about was how long it delayed my surgery. After having the sleep study I had to wait to get an appointment with the Dr to then wait to get the referral to the company to get my CPAP. Then I had to wait 3 months to get another appointment with the sleep doctor so that he could send the compliance paperwork / information to the bariatric doctor..... All in all it slowed me by about 4 months, which pushed me into the next year and I had to meet my deductible for another year. Probably cost me an extra $1000 in out of pocket expenses. Can't say I would have done it any other way though.

By the way, I don't need my CPAP anymore! Sleep apnea went away when I dropped all the weight!

Try to make your follow up appointments when you see the sleep doctor so you don't get lost in the shuffle. Might speed up your process a little, but you still have to wait a couple months to show that you are using your CPAP. This is all based on the assumption that you will need a CPAP. If you do the study and it shows that you do not have sleep apnea than all this is a moot point!

    Good luck!

Ghost_ryder thank you. I agree. I have actually been enjoying the classes. I am now done with all
My classes and just have to wait now. I check in with my dietician once a month, so from here on out it's daily food logs and working on losing the 10 pounds I need to. I'm good with the process

Even though my sleep study was at home, I don't feel like I slept at all. I woke up soooo many times. I doubt I slept enough for it to be accurate

During my sleep study I woke up 49 times. That must be a record. No sleep apnea, just insomnia. Sucks.
