I am scheduled to have my procedure next week. My wife suggest that it might be good to get a hospital bed.

I guess it depends on your starting weight and if you really struggle now getting up and down out of bed. I had an incline foam pillow and it helped me for the first 5 days or so just lessening the pressure from my incision site but it really wasn't too bad. Good luck on your journey.
I did spend 3 nights at the hospital post-op and really wished I was in my own bed, hospital beds are so hard on my back. Getting in and out of bed post-op was really easy, compared to my 3 c-sections where I had to sleep in the guest room (bed was lower) for 2 weeks, with the sleeve it was easy to get in my own bed or to climb stairs. But we are all different...

You folks are unbelievable in your support!
Sounds like a waste of money to me, but whatever works for you. I was comfortable sleeping in my recliner at first, but my bed worked too. I did sleep almost that whole first week! (Also took little walks and got in my liquids and protein.)
I spent one night in the hospital. Definitely not my comfy bed!!. At home, for the first 3 nights, I slept propped up with several pillows. To get out of bed, I just rolled on my side and then slowly (at first) pushed myself up.
Honestly, the worst part was not being able to sleep on my stomach!!!. That took a few weeks.
Best wishes on your journey.

I slept on my couch for 3 days at home. It was just more comfortable. Plus, unfortunate timing, but my husband came down with the flu the day of my surgery. I wasn't going near that. Anyway, the couch was more comfortable for me because it helped me stay on my side, I'm usually a stomach sleeper.
I never got in the hospital bed. They had a reclining chair that I stayed in the over night, made it easier to get up and walk, etc. as I have some hip issues. Then I actually slept in my recliner for a few days when I got home, I have a very solid one, paid about $3k for it a few years ago as it also has a lift in it. Guess it all depends on your situation. Best of luck to you!
When getting out of bed just swing your legs over to the ground first before trying to sit up as someone with back issues I have been getting out of bed like this for years and it was effective after surgery for getting up. Good luck to you.
