Good point about everyone's "success" being individual, although not "subjective," if by that you mean sort of "fuzzy." But maybe that's not what you were thinking of. Like all goals, I think "success" is best being defined specifically and being measurable.
My definitions / measures of WLS success:
1. Lose all my excess weight. Check! (Lost 100 pounds.)
2. Maintain my weight loss. Check (SO FAR -- still weigh 100 pounds less than when I started).
3. Eat much more nutritiously than I used to eat. Check (MOSTLY).
4. Stay hydrated. Not so check-y. I could and should do better than I'm doing. I should get in 8-10 cups of liquids/day. I usually get in 7. And it's really not enough in the hot summertime.
5. Do a much better job of "self care" (defined by me as meeting my medical, physical and emotional needs -- everything from taking my daily vitamins/minerals/supplements/meds to brushing and flossing my teeth to seeing my therapist monthly to having my annual mammogram, annual post-WLS blood tests, physical exams, dental appointments, etc.) Definitely check (SO FAR).
6. Be much more physically active through exercise (5X/week), work on our property and in the house, and recreational activities. Big-time check (SO FAR).
