So, today I went to my orthopedic doctor to start shots for the arthritis in my knee. I weigh about 5 to 10 pounds more than my average (190-195 pounds) because I have not been able to get in much exercise. We had talked about losing weight/exercise before. So, today I told him about my upcoming bariatric surgery and my struggles to have it even considered by by my insurance.
My doctor asked what kind of bariatric surgery I was having and I told him the gastric sleeve as a self-pay patient. He was very curious. I also told him that I was going to Mexico to have it done within Dr. Alvarez and about how my research and friends led me to him. He said to keep him updated (I see him for 2 more shots) before my surgery since his wife struggles with the same issues I have. I never expected my "old school" doctor to approve. I expected him to try to talk me out of it!
I don't know if others have had their doctors question going to Mexico but I thought it was great that he was so open to it!
