    Default Bike Riders?

    OK, hubby bought me a bike as a retirement gift. I haven't biked in probably 13 years. I'm starting out flat, on a trail that goes along the Missouri River.

    OMG, my butt is killing me! (Legs are fine!) How long does it take to get used to sitting on that seat? I've only gone for two 8 mile rides.

    I did order some of those shorts with padding today, but OUCH.

    I never got accustomed to the bike seats. I'd invest in a padded bike seat if I were you. The sore booty that results after a bike ride is no fun whatsoever.

    I use padded bike shorts and they seem to help. What helped even more my local bike shop does fittings and gave me a different seat. That seemed like it helped more than the shorts. From what I can remember, they said the seat needs to line up with the "sit bones" on your butt. It made sense since everyone is different. I ride between 15-20 miles every day with no problems.

    I changed my seat a few months ago, the one on the bike was awful and gave me bruises. I got a better one on Amazon (Schwinn No Pressure Bicycle Seat) it was under 20$.

    Good soft cushioned seat and biker shorts with the padding will help. They say eventually you build up a "callous" there and it is easier. (My ex was an avid rider.) I don't do it because I actually have a medical issue with my tail bone and the weight loss has left it more exposed. (I was born with my coccyx turned out instead of under.)

    Get fitted for your bike by a good bike shop. The seat should sit in the right spot or it will hurt regardless of shorts, padded seats, or anything. Guys and girls are built different (shocking I know) and what works for a dude will hurt a dudette and vice versa! Trust me, I ride 50+ miles a week, some weeks 100!
