Default 6 Month Post op today

-75 pounds from my date of surgery!

My dr is THRILLED. All of my vitamin levels are great. I don't even need to take anything. I'm more active than ever, jogging, walking, biking, etc, and loving life. My family has also changed their way of eating to no carbs. I put veggies on my plate, but I never really have room for them. I always eat protein first. My dr was fine with that. I also asked if I am eating enough. He said that's not really a concern. Eat 3 meals a day + 1 snack and stop eating when you're full. He also told me to throw the scale away and to only bring it out if i decide to start pigging out on carbs.

My hormones are out of wack, but he said that's pretty normal for fast weight loss and it could also be my age playing into that (43).

If anyone is in NJ and looking for a surgeon I would highly recommend the practice I go to. I love them. They are super supportive and follow up for a year, and have support groups for anyone post surgery at any time.

    Surgery Day Weight 1/11: 300
    Month 1: -34 pounds, -25 inches

    Congrats on your weight loss.

Little protip .... Not sure I understood, but if you are not taking vitamins/minerals, please start doing so. Those deficiencies take a while (even a few years) to show up. You don't want to dig out from the kinds of problems that can cause!

Thanks! I take a multi, but don't need anything in addition to that. Before I was taking several other vitamins due to low levels.

There are lots of things that affect a women's hormones, such as the crap that leaches out of plastic bowls and such, especially when microwaved. Google it and try changing some of those things. Might help with the hormones, reducing chemical exposure certainly can't hurt!

That's great. I'm looking forward to my family joining me in eating differently. My daughter has gained a considerable amount of weight in her first year out of high school, working 2 jobs, and going to beauty school. We joined a gym together and now that her schedule is less hectic (she graduated beauty school and quit one of the jobs), we're taking advantage of that. I'm hopeful that my journey will encourage and motivate her. I don't want to dwell on her situation, but I want to be here for her and help her.
    Fingers crossed.

I echo what Ann recommended, at six months your vitamin levels may not change much, according to a book I have read on post-Sleeve digestive system and nutrition. I also do not take what doctors and surgeon say at face value, especially since last October I had a physical and was told alll was perfect and last month I went to see a different doctor for a different issue and took my lab report with me and he asked me what I was taking for my hypothyroid? I was like what do you mean? Apparently my thyroid was on the low functioning of normal.

He took more tests and we decided that I would just monitor my hypothyroid through labs for now, I do take Selenium and Iodine supplements for that.

I rather be proactive now if it will help me down the road.

Congratulations! In your successes thus far!

Great job! You are about one month earlier than me and we have similar starting weight, ages, and hormone problems. I had my estrogen levels checked and apparently I am in menopause at 43! I was kind of shocked because I thought that maybe my weight was a factor to my cycle being off, but didn't expect that! Anyways, good work on your weight loss!

Congrats Luna!! You are doing a great job. And I love that your family is eating along with you. My hubby has started eating healthier but has not given up carbs. I have started to add some back now but still eat low carb overall.
