Hi there! I am almost 3 months into my pre-surgery journey and almost 3 weeks into my very low calorie diet. My surgeon has required a mostly-protein shake diet with one lean & green meal per day. The first 4 days were very challenging. Since then, it has gotten easier. I see that many surgeons allow an Atkins stage 1 diet to shrink the liver, but now that I am experiencing the VLCD, I see the point of relying less on food. It is helping me to rethink my relationship with food. Now, when I want comfort, I am seeking other sources. It's a huge change for me. I'm not going to lie: I really miss wine, my homemade chicken cutlets, and sweet potatoes. Oh, and eggs. I love eggs. But at some point, I will be able to eat again, just in different amounts and with different priorities. The program I am in also required a practice diet, so I feel prepared for what eating will be like once I am healed.
I've chosen this path because my weight was interfering with y life. My knee was starting to go, and i was in pain all the time. Sitting in movie seats and airplane seats was uncomfortable and embarrassing. I was feeling limited in life because of my weight, and this weight was no longer serving me. The weight actually served a purpose for me at one time, but that time is long past.
At any rate, I am here for advice, support, and a hint of my future. I look forward to engaging in the conversation!
