Red face Making a commitment to myself & my family

Hi there! I am almost 3 months into my pre-surgery journey and almost 3 weeks into my very low calorie diet. My surgeon has required a mostly-protein shake diet with one lean & green meal per day. The first 4 days were very challenging. Since then, it has gotten easier. I see that many surgeons allow an Atkins stage 1 diet to shrink the liver, but now that I am experiencing the VLCD, I see the point of relying less on food. It is helping me to rethink my relationship with food. Now, when I want comfort, I am seeking other sources. It's a huge change for me. I'm not going to lie: I really miss wine, my homemade chicken cutlets, and sweet potatoes. Oh, and eggs. I love eggs. But at some point, I will be able to eat again, just in different amounts and with different priorities. The program I am in also required a practice diet, so I feel prepared for what eating will be like once I am healed.

I've chosen this path because my weight was interfering with y life. My knee was starting to go, and i was in pain all the time. Sitting in movie seats and airplane seats was uncomfortable and embarrassing. I was feeling limited in life because of my weight, and this weight was no longer serving me. The weight actually served a purpose for me at one time, but that time is long past.

At any rate, I am here for advice, support, and a hint of my future. I look forward to engaging in the conversation!

That is awesome and welcome! I too changed my eating habits 7 months before surgery and it was the best decision for me personally. I know if i didn't change before surgery after would work for a little while then i would gain the weight back. I lost 51 pounds before surgery. Some of my friends said if i could lose weight on my own i don't need surgery. For me i knew I wouldn't be able to get to where i needed to be on my own. So just be aware this may happen to you as well. Hold fast to what you know you need to do. This isn't about anyone but YOU. I wait to follow you on your journey!

I have heard that from people, but what convinces me is that 95% of people who lose the amount of weight I intend to lose gain all or more of it back. I can't go back. I don't want to be in pain anymore.

    Thank you for the encouragement.

Recent studies show that a lot of people are keeping the weight off even if it's not all of it. And truthfully your success relies on you. We make our own journey and I have no intention on going back. I weigh regularly when I'm home. (Right now I'm on vacation and no access to a scale.)
