Make sure and take a laxative 3 days before your surgery to clear out your system and stick to your clear fluids as long as you can before your surgery date. (at least 3 days but longer is better) . This is drastically help with Gas right after your surgery. Which is the most painful part of the process.

One more thing.. Ween yourself off caffeine gradually Before starting your pre op diet. Depending on the amount of caffiene you drink daily stopping it can cause BAD heachaches for 2-3 days.. it's better to not have to deal with the caffeine withdraw at the same time as the first couple days of the diet.

    Good Luck

Hi PokerGuy...Did you do clear fluids only, or just liquids pre-op? Just curious. Since I signed up Mid-May, I've done low carb and lost 20 pounds, but my pre-op 10-day starts Monday and so I'm curious if you did solely clear liquids, or just liquids. I've been doing just protein shakes and water every day, with a small salad for dinner. I'll cut the salad out on Monday and add another shake!

I hope your surgery goes great today! Best wishes for quick healing! My surgery date is on the 20th with Dr. A!

    Thank you!

    Hi Alice!!

This site has tons of information. Welcome aboard and best of luck to you before and after your surgery! My surgery date is in 13 days!! I'm so excited. The thing I'm most worried about is returning to work just 5 days after, but fortunately, I can lay pretty low in my office and sit most of the day!

Hi Poker Guy! Thanks for the advice. I have been warned about "gas" and have Gas-X strips to use after surgery! I will also use the laxative...."oh ducky!"
The shakes are working well and will keep up with those. Did the painful withdrawal from caffeine 6 months ago, I knew what was coming... Thanks again.

Good luck on your surgery. I could tolerate warm fluids better immediately post op. Don't expect eating and drinking to be easy post op. It takes a while to do it comfortably. Use a heating pad. It helped me a lot that first week. Make sure to ask your doctor for a liquid pain reliever and anti nausea medication. You may need them that first week. The first week is the hardest but it gets a bit easier each day.
