    Default Fat People Fails

So I was cruising youtube this evening and saw a video called "funniest fat people fails". I watched it and the whole time I was thinking how happy I am that I am no longer the person in the video. People can be so incredibly judgmental and brutally critical when you are obese. Apparently all our mistakes are funny to the non obese.

In the spirit of celebrating our accomplishments, shaking it off and not giving a flying flip anymore, would you share one of your fails? Something that you can laugh about now. We're all either right there with you or been there. MWAH!

I sat down in my office chair at work one morning and it broke. I was still on the floor trying to get up when my co workers ran into my office to see if I was ok.

The last couple times I was on a plane I was sooooo scared they were going to make me purchase two seats. About a year ago, when I tried to get up to exit the plane I was stuck in my seat. I tried and tried to get up but couldn't and people around me started to notice. I was NOT about to let them see me cry though I was crying on the inside and disgusted with myself. Then,.... I realized I never unbuckled my seat belt and that was holding me down, lol.

We had an earthquake a few years back. Not a common occurrence in SE Pennsylvania. At this time, I was At or close to my lowest adult weight, having lost close to 50 lbs and I felt my chair moving and my first thought was OMG am I about to break this chair. Last year or the year before, I got into the sample seat outside of the amusement park ride and found that I couldn't fit. That was embarrassing but not as bad as if I was actually on the ride and wound have had to get off. I haven't been back to Six Flags and I won't go back until the weight is off.

People are just awful. Looking at comments on youtube, after any kind of documentary about obesity make you realize that for many obesity is worth than the plague. On those comments, people have no filters and you can see easily what the majority of people around us think about obesity.

I even met awful doctors or nurses who made comments when I was pregnant. I must say I was not nice to them and did report their bad bedside manners to their supervisor, which I'm convinced was thinking exactly the same thing. But whatever, I made a written formal complaint at the time, and that's a pretty serious issue for them.

We all have a broken furniture story, seats too small in airplanes, no ride in amusement park story. It does make me feel sad for other obese fellows, especially here in Asia where it's even seen in a worth way than it is in Western countries.

Here I've been told that the biggest obese stay at home and don't get outside because being seen would be a big shame for the family.
That's an other dimension...and extremely sad.

Laughing at overweight people just mades me sad. No one would laugh at a person in a wheelchair, or a blind person. Makes me wonder what people were thinking/saying about me behind my back when I was overweight. I'm still the exact same person.

The time I went dancing and went a little too low and ripped my pants. Luckily everyone was drunk and I had my friend get me a long sleeved shirt from one of the guys to wrap around my waist. (Being 4'11" it was long enough to cover the back. I could have died. And the amount of times that children innocently told me that I had a baby in my belly. UGH.

At Disney World, sitting down in the Carousel of Progress and the seat collapsed under me. Fortunately, not the most crowded ride at Disney World so it was only 50 people who saw that one.

The second for me was going into the Department of Justice building (Main Justice). You have to go through a "Man Trap" to go through screening. You enter a chamber and the door behind you closes, you are scanned and the door in front opens after the x-ray is viewed and deemed safe. Me on the other hand, I enter the trap and the door closed. The door re-opened behind me and the computer voice told me to exit and enter one at a time. Three times in front of co-workers and meeting attendees. Finally, security pulled me aside and did a manual scan. Thanks for not making me do it a fourth time security!

I look look at obese people now and think to myself..."they need gastric surgery. Why don't they just have surgery?"

Then I remember that it took a lifetime of obesity before I had surgery.

There have been too many times for me. One time about 22 years ago, I was a patient in the hospital and needed to get to another department. They bring in a wheel chair that I could have fit into, and the orderly (?) gets to the door, sees me and then yells down the hall something to the effect "I need the BIGGER chair." I was overweight back then, but NOT nearly as big as I had been the last couple years.

Then my nephew who was about 4 at the time (he's almost 28 now) announces at a 4th of July party -when he saw me in a swimsuit- "Aunt Lori, you're so fat!" A good time was NOT had by all that day.

    Pam,

I always wonder if they wish someone would talk to them about it. I feel like they look at me with disdain and like I don't understand the struggle because I'm thin. I think to myself, oh honey, I too used to be big. I know the secret of how to fix it. I would share it with you if I knew it wouldn't hurt your feelings.

Ok, I've been dying to post this but have been busy, and it's hard to be on this forum on my phone, I'm 46, not tech savvy. LOL
But I have a confession.... I have parked in the spots marked for expectant mothers when I'm not expecting (at the grocery store). I guess I was feeling particularly ornery, pitiful, defiant, you name it. I was like, well hell I look pregnant so F it.
It's funny but it's not. Please don't judge. I wouldn't park in a handicapped spot. Those grocery store spots are a courtesy, not a law.... right????
I'm over my self pity party though since I have taken control of my situation and started this process.
