How long before I can take a bath?

Good afternoon everyone! It has been 16 days since surgery. When leaving the hospital, I was told no baths, showers only. I totally forgot to ask at my first follow up visit this past Monday.

Does anyone recall when they were told they could resume baths?

I advise to ask your surgeon. I've noticed a variation of pre and post op instructions among our members. Did he or she possibly give you written instructions to follow post op?

I don't recall how long I had to wait but I do recall feeling that it was a long time (weeks). I also recall having the surgeon check my surgical incision for healing before I was ok'd to take a bath. Everyone heals at a different rate and unless the site is completely scarred over (no scab or remaining wound) then you should not take a bath. Really, ask your surgeon for clearance on that. I'm a bath taker too so I understand your eagerness for a nice soak!

Thanks for the feedback! I see my surgeon on July 10th so hopefully I get the ok then. I will be 3 and half weeks out by then and will also meet with my NUT for moving on to stage 3. I do miss being able to chew and these protein shakes are getting old. My goal was to lose 20 pounds the first month. I think I'm going to make it!

Hi surgeon said it was ok to go swimming after 2 weeks

I had to wait until the incisions were healed to swim or take a bath. I could shower the day after surgery
