    Default Fluid retention

I am 4 weeks 3 days post op and I'm retaining fluid. My feet and ankles are swollen. Is this common? I do have Dyazide, but my surgeon took me off it, as well as my Metformin and I have been doing great. My blood sugar is excellent and I have had no problems with fluid until today. Please advise.

Sorry to hear that you are retaining water... I would definitely call your surgeon or PCP. Other more experienced members will chime in but I don't remember see that this was an issue 4 weeks out? Hope you are feeling better soon and are able to get some relief. (hugs)

Have you been consuming a minimum of 64 ounces (a.k.a. 8 glasses) of water each day? If not, start ASAP. The less water you drink, the more your body wants to retain fluids for dear life.

    Good luck to you.

I have not been able to get more than 48 oz (which I sip on all day) of water in, but I do sugar free popsicles & ice chips each day as well.

I'm pre-surgery and 291 lbs with HBP which I refuse to medicate. Just started getting swollen legs/feet/ankles 3 days ago. I have to wear flip flops to work... and it HURTS!!!!
I started drinking more water than ever and looking up foods that are natural diuretics. I don't know what your post surgery diet allows right now but:
cucumbers (or add to your water), watermelon, celery, lemons in your water, the list is long. Google it and see how you can incorporate it into your diet.
Hope it gets better for you soon.

Have you spoken to your surgeon? My surgeon said if my HBP was not controlled then the anesthesiologist could potentially cancel my surgery if my BP was too high on the day of surgery. So 2 months pre op I began taking medications. Just something to consider.

I have not had any issues with swelling except immediately post op. What did your PCP or surgeon say? You did have it checked out, right?

Dr put me on Hydrochlothorazide for fluid retention and blood pressure. Swelling is better and BP has also.
