    Question Experiencing sweats

I am 2 1/2 weeks PO and when I eat I immediately begin to get hot and sweat and sometimes nausea accompanies it. I read about dumping, but I seem to get the sweats regardless of what I am eating. It can be the healthiest, docs orders food choices and I can still feel this. Can any of you relate? if so, have you found answers from physicians etc? I can't seem to find this answer. I get extremely uncomfortable and need to excuse myself. Smells begin to nauseate me and all.

Example, I ate a sm salad today for lunch, light balsamic and chicken included. I about passed out I was so hot and uncomfortable. But then after that sensation passes, I go back to normalcy, including being extremely cold.
    Anything helps.

Just wondering why you are eating a salad? Shouldn't you be on soft foods at the most? Not judging just curious. I'm just over a month out and on soft foods for another month.

Not sure, but I was on liquids (protein shakes) for 2 weeks after surgery, then introduced to real food little by little. I don't think I had chicken until 5 or 6 weeks after surgery. Maybe stick to softer foods? Fish is so much better than chicken. (Just had tuna tonight, and my surgery was 3 and a half years ago!)

I'd call your doctor and ask them. I'm hot most of the time and that hasn't changed since the surgery. I do remember having some chills post-op. My doctor said the change in hormone causes hot/cold flashes.

All surgeons are different and have different requirement.

But if you read most guidelines or books about the surgery you will notice that the requirements are pretty similar and people are not chewing food that early. The first month is important for healing and precautions should be used...for example do not eat strawberries or raspberries that early because you don't want to have seeds stuck in the scare.
My surgeon asked me specifically not to have raw food until I was one month out. Mainly to protect the stomach from bacteria. So at your stage I was still in full liquid, mostly veggie soup blended with meat. When I was about to follow the schedule and go into soft food/pureed food my stomach couldn't handle it so I staid longer on full liquid.

I did have strong nausea for more than six month, but also a few things I couldn't tolerate for months. All cruciferous veggies made me sick (broccoli cabbage etc) and even bell pepper made me sick, stomach cramps, nausea, sweating etc
I'm 17 months out, still have to be really careful with acidic food (too much vinegar can give me reflux).

My advice would be to try to have only tiny bites the size of a peanut, eat slowly and try one new food item per sitting so you know if you tolerate the food or not.
Chicken is a protein that I could only have mixed with soup for several weeks, same for turkey because those take longer to digest and still today I can't eat a full chicken breast it's still too much. I get full really quickly, which is actually a good thing

Yes. Every pre and post op is different depending on the surgeon/nut. Regardless, if you are feeling that way it is because your body may not be ready for those things yet. Most people try things one at a time to see how their body responds. Most people have a hard time with raw veggies initially...especially things like lettuce, broccoli, and cauliflower. When we start on real foods (which I was cleared for at 4 weeks) most people will eat their protein first as it is the most important thing in the beginning since we can eat so little. I know if I ate too much or too fast I would feel the same. I can tell you that at your phase I could eat very, very little and it was easy to get queasy and hot like that. I would suggest going back to soft foods and then slowly introducing solids again one at a time.

I thought I'd clarify my previous post. I am 60 and had my surgery 2 years ago. I started menopause about age 40 and have had hot flashes since. Losing 80 pounds has helped quite a bit, but my body still runs hot.

I am 49 years old and I am always hot, not just hot flashes but always hot with activity, I always chalk it up to my weight but I hate it. Please tell me once I lose the weight I won't be running hot all the time.

Most people will tell you that they are not so hot after losing a large amount of weight. I do think it has improved for me to a degree. I used to sweat around my neck and head. Then perspiration would roll down my back. That has definitely improved but for some reason I just run hot. It might have something to do with fibromyalgia. I'm hoping it will improve some day. I can be outside in the sun and have no problem, but being hot in my house or in the car is unbearable. It's like the towering inferno and I am the tower. I think you can be pretty certain that you will eventually see an improvement in time.

It happens to me with carbs. I eat a lot of carbs, so it happens to me frequently. I know the feeling very well. It is yucky. Luckily it passes relatively quickly. I do always have to lie down for about 20 - 30 minutes or I feel like I'm going to hit the floor. I swear that I'm never going to eat carbs again, then as soon as I feel better I pop another potato chip in my mouth. So damn stubborn. I'm a bit over 2 1/2 years post op, so this may or may not be something that goes away for you.
