Default Vertigo! Any relation to the VSG?

Yesterday, I woke up with a slight case of vertigo. I have never had it before and didn't know if that was what it was, but I rolled over in bed and THE ROOM STARTED SPINNING! I waited for it to pass and it did. I got up and felt a little dizzy, but basically it was over. This morning another story altogether! The spinning started the same way, but then the more I did, the worse it got until finally I was vomiting. I waited a while and tried to get up one more time and immediate vomiting!

I call my PCP and they had me come in, checked my blood pressure (a little higher than normal) drew blood, did an EKG and prescribed an anti-nausea med and a med for dizziness. They said to start with the anti-nausea med as that alone might take away the dizziness. I definitely don't feel nauseous now, but still dizzy, so I WILL take the dizziness med.

My question is I've heard of dizziness after VSG, but really always seems to be related to lack of food and dehydration neither of which are the case with me. Is there any relation to VSG and Vertigo that anyone knows of? The PCP didn't know of any...but doctors are notoriously uninformed about gastric surgery, so I thought I'd ask the "experts".

Other than that, I LOVE my sleeve and am thankful every day for it.

I got dizziness and vertigo for a bit awhile after my surgery. It turns out that eating really cleanly and exercising regularly was causing me to deplete my sodium levels. Once I started monitoring my sodium intake and accounting for low levels with broth and G2, the vertigo issues were greatly diminished.

I was going to mention to check sodium levels too, if you track food on app see what you ate consuming.

I am the opposite, low blood pressure and low sodium are the cause of dizziness for me sometimes. I used very little salt preop because of ongoing issues with vascular edema, and water retention. But I noticed water retention happens when I don't drink enough water. Now I started putting more sea salt on my cooking and it has gotten better all around. I only have to watch it when I go on long flights.

I have read that high quality (no Mercury) sea salt doesn't affect high blood pressure as regular table salt if that's a concern.

Could be low potassium. Hopefully this is just a fluke and not something you will have for very long. Keep us posted.

Since I had a few issues with dehydration post-op(tropical climate doesn't help either) I was always careful with drinking enough during the day but sometimes it was hard since I was very nauseous and it prevented me from drinking. At six months out I had a virus and blacked out in the middle of the street. I also noticed that since I stopped my PPI a few months ago, nausea 24/7 stopped for good, but I realize today that I haven't been dizzy either. So may be it's a coincidence but I do suspect that my PPI was increasing my nausea, but I guess it might have done something about the dizziness too? who knows...

Right after surgery I had all kinds of strange things going on. Eventually my body adjusted. Just be careful to take vitamin supplements on a daily basis. I noticed if I skipped vitamins for a few days I'd have the issues you're describing.
