    Default Drum Roll Please...

As a lot of you know, I have been struggling to EAT enough over the last 3 months and have posted many times on here about it recently. I have been dealing with the 'unintended consequences' of losing a lot of weight in a short amount of time and having a real fear of becoming a FAT ASS again. (I NEVER would have thought I could fall victim to thinking this way. On the road to an eating disorder). I'm working that out now, as best I can. Well, I started to increase eating last Thursday (I believe) and gained 3 pounds over the next couple days. I also realized that (a TMI moment here) I hadn't had a BM in several days either so I freaked out- and then calmed down when I figured that one out. More on this later...

But my dinner victory TONIGHT was that I ate! (Cue the Drum Roll music): I ate 5 ounces of grilled boneless/skinless chicken breast that I made (standing in 104 degree Las Vegas weather.) I cut the pieces so small, and ate like a mouse, and I ate it all! There wasn't much room for the steamed broccoli I planned to eat with it, but I was extremely thrilled to be able to consume more than 2 ounces of chicken. (And this was my first chicken breast since surgery in March.)

I lost 1 1/2 lbs since my gain the other day and did go to the bathroom, finally. On Thursday night I started to retake my nightime sleep meds I took for 25 years and had stopped two days before surgery. Even cut up, these are mini volkswagen sized pills and I could NOT swallow them after surgery. Worse, was crushing them. Never again. So I took the pills for a few nights and was plugged tighter than a cork in a wine bottle... and walked around like a Zombie on The Walking Dead for the past 3 days. I told my husband there is NO way I am suffering through this crapola. SO back to melatonin.

I just had to share my 5 ounce chicken VICTORY! (And I am STUFFED!)

You definitely need to be careful not to swap one eating disorder (overeating) for another (anorexia). I can probably eat 4 oz in one sitting. It may take me a little bit. I have found that I need to take a bit longer to eat. But I know that it is important for me to eat and not throw my body into starvation mode. You have done a wonderful job and have been very successful! Stay on the track to healthy!! Big hugs!

Congrats on the 5 ounces!! I still have a hard time to eat more than 4 ounces even today. I can't believe your clinic gave you such bad advice to eat only 2 ounces of protein!! this is non sens!!
anyway, you are doing great! eating more now will may be slow down the weight loss a little bit but it's better on the long run to be able to absorb more protein and feel better! plus loosing too quickly is not that great anyway (it can trigger gallblader issues). If possible, slowly and steady is the best road.

Turkey and shrimp are really dense and usually I can't have more than 3 ounces. Too bad since they are my fav protein...

Melatonin has for sure less side effects than sleep meds so if you can deal without it it's for the best!

It's normal to be scared of gaining the weight back. I think we all have that fear at some point, especially at the beginning. But with the time you will see that you lose more and don't regain, it does feel better. Yet, I still have the fear in the back of my head sometimes...may be I will need years to process it...

Christie, I am DETERMINED to eat more each day. At lunch today, I had tuna, and lettuce and spinach (chopped up), 1 oz. of cherub tomatoes, and 1 hard boiled egg. I was surprised I ate the bowl of it (maybe 1 cup all combined), but I did it!

Sandra, I haven't tried shrimp. Just cod fillets and tilapia. I would rather lose slower now and get in more proteins. I am supposed to see the surgeon for a checkup end of next month and REALLY don't want to see him or his staff (bunch of Ass Hats!) I may just give my doctor his bloodwork lab papers and go thru her. I worry about regaining, but my sleeve is pretty restricted as it is. No space for anything else to fit in there. Thank God!

When I had my scan at 3 months out, it was the only time I actually lost muscle mass, because I was not able to get enough protein. After that I could eat enough (and my awful nausea went away little by little it did help). So what you are doing now is great, because you won't lose muscle mass. And eating protein from food seems more efficient than from shakes.

I had to see my GP when I was in France last year and this year, but unfortunately it was time to retire so I had to get a new one. Can't stand him! I'm so happy my surgeon and his team are lovely but sometimes when I traveled I had to get blood test or prescription from elsewhere so I do understand the feeling.I'm looking for a new GP in France right now!

If I was you I would go with my GP since she seems nice. After you reach month 3 they don't check your wounds anyway. If it's only for blood test a GP is enough. If you had the Dexa scan (or equivalent) at your surgeon's clinic, you can also find it in other places, and look on Groupon for discounts.

I felt my restriction was really good until I reach 9 months out. Then I gained weight with my asthma medication, lost it indeed but I could tell my restriction changed also around that time. You still have lots of time in front of you so no worries at all!! I'm sure you will reach your goal and will be in maintenance long before month 9!

Yay!!! Glad you got that whole food protein in!

I made Fajitas for dinner! I used the avocado and coconut oil blend I got, grass-fed beef and organic bell pepper and lots of onion. I seasoned it with seasalt and pepper and 1/2 cup red wine which added in the end with a cup of fresh cut up tomatoes from my garden. The delish smell was driving me crazy. I thought I was going to devour it all lol! I also made steamed broccolini. I measured 5 oz of Fajita on my plate, served with half a small avocado and a few stems of the broccolini. I ate half of the meat to allow for avocado and vegetables. I had to walk away! Will have rest for an snack in two hours.

Your dinner sounds magnifico! I'll have to try something like that. Broccolini is delicious.

I found that the food didn't feel as heavy if I made sure I got my veggies too.... honestly, I would focus on both..

Fish was always the answer for me, so much easier on my tummy than meat. Any fish, tuna, scallops, shrimp, etc. Even now I can eat much more fish than meat. Plus my nutritionist wants me to focus on food with the least feet, so I guess that would make fish #1.

My first meat after surgery was chicken, and wow, what a feeling. I didn't get sick (never have) but felt like dying!
