Default My nutrionists guidelines...What do you think?

    Surgery was June 14th

I got my surgery outside of Los Angeles which is where I live and therefore I cannot see my nutrionist in person. She suggested:

    1,000 calories/day

    35 grams of carbs max

    70 grams of protein minimum

    15 gm of sugar max

    86 ounces of fluids

I wanted to see how this compared to other people. Please tell me what you think. It just seems like the fat is awfully small for the carbs to be so low. I am only at stage 2 where I am having protein shakes and nonfat greek yogurt mostly until Wendesday when I can eat soft foods. Let me know. Thanks! I hope that I am not driving all of you crazy with my constant questions.

These are great guidelines and certainly a doable goal at 1 month and beyond. I know real low-carb helps with ultimate or max weightloss for most.

I have to check my food logs, but I dont think I reached 1000 calories until month two or three. Maybe the reason of my slow weightloss. I did however meet and sometimes exceeded my protein grams and water requirements.

Let's us know what strategy you have to meet your NUT's recommendation.

    Ps...

Here are my stats two weeks out, I discussed with my NUT that I wanted a more balanced approach that I could sustain for a lifetime:

The guidelines are good but don't force yourself to try to eat 1000 calories.
I still have days where I don't reach that.
I would work on tracking protein, carbs and sugar. Keep away from the processes stuff and you'll do great I still don't track calories - only those 3.

    Best of luck!!

I think it's great that you are asking these questions. If you're annoying people, those people are in the wrong group. That's what we're here for.
Definitely follow your Dr's orders. It might not make sense to you, but they know what they are talking about.

    Hi there.

I had my surgery inside of Los Angeles. My Dr. for the first 6 months only wanted me consuming 600-800 calories per day.
They wanted me to keep my protein intake around 80-100 grams. Because I work out they told me to keep it in the range of 50-100 for the carbs. I was having bouts of dizziness and would only consume extra cabs before a hard workout.

Now at 7 1/2 months post op I'm about 800-1000. I actually contacted her today for the complete breakdown of what my caloric needs need to be today. Sometimes I hit 1100 other days I'm at 890

My main focus is to try and keep my fluid intake up now. I still have problems getting in my daily fluid in.

I'm going to agree with what others have said don't worry so much about the calories. At 5 months out I'm just now regularly hitting around 1000 a day. Everything else she gave you is very good goals. My carbs usually end up around 60-75 a day with the bulk of those coming from the amount of fruit and vegetables I eat. I avoid sugars from everything other then the ones naturally in fruit. I also drink around 130 ounces of liquids daily mostly water but some powerade zero.

I wouldn't worry if you are way under that calorie goal for a while. I don't even think I hit that now. I honestly don't track (well, once in a while I do). The only carbs I really eat are from veggies. I haven't had fruit. I still concentrate on getting in my protein beause there are still some days I'm under my protein goal

Sound rational for month three. Seems like a lot immediately post-op. Do your best, especially with fluid and protein.

    Hey.

I didn't hit 1,000 calories until Month Five. At Month Seven I got up to 1,200 calories.

Month One I was probably doing 500. Months Two - Four I was doing 800.

It's hard to eat a lot early on. But there's real value (said my surgeon's smart, smart P.A., in moving up to 1,000 by Month 5 and then up to 1,200 cals by Month 7. You don't want to get your body accustomed to eating so few calories you wind up being able to maintain at a lower calorie level than you can comfortably live at.

IMHO, it's really important to spend your calories (no matter how many you're eating) on NUTRITIOUS foods. Don't graze at all. Don't eat "slider foods" (highly processed foods that go down easy and don't invite any restriction at all. Examples are cookies, chips, pretzels, crackers, ice cream, liquids with calories, white carbs of any kind. You can google / search here for what those other slider foods are.

I think you'll do great. Listen to your body. And listen to your medical advisors and to those here who've been very successful in both losing weight and maintaining.

Protip: Eventually -- a year, two years, three years out -- you'll be able to eat practically anything you want. Those times come with different challenges. Don't even worry about them now -- except to NOT accustom yourself to eating crappy foods.

    Best wishes!

I would only focus on fluids and protein at this time. Wouldn't worry about much else. And now...I really don't track much. I just try to make sure I eat well and focus on protein first. And fluids as well. And then I take my vitamins/supplements. I do not count calories, carbs, fat...nada. But I have really focused on putting thought into my decisions and listening to my body!
