Default Nutrients and Health Topic: Coconut Oil Verdict

Last week, a few days after I had started talking about my interest in learning more about the Keto Program my partner sent me a link to the article debunking the health benefits of Coconut Oil.

So this is my take, and you can decide for yourself, that moderation is key to living healthy lives. As obese people we "may" take things to the extreme, maybe we we don't pay attention for whatever reason to serving recommendations on our favorite snack or food, which after years of ignoring physical or mental or even label cues we are just used to eating volumes which became detrimental to our health, our bodies, our minds, our thoughts, ourselves. So as Sleeved folks we would want to change all those things that made us obese in the process. I know I do. So moderation is a key concept we must learn and adopt. If coconut oil is a trigger food and if you must abstain please do.

Here is the article out in the media: https://www.google.com/amp/amp.usato...ory/402719001/

    Here is a rebuttal: https://blog.bulletproof.com/why-coc...=weeklyroundup

Here is a medical association supporting the AHA recommendation: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/881689

Whether you believe that corporate interests are behind these type of recommendations or not, we all individually need to make the best decision for our ultimate health.

Coconut oil makes a good eye makeup remover, though!

I think the reason oil/fat is encouraged on a very low carb diet, is to keep the knawing hunger pains at bay, so we can stick to a moderate protein/low carb meal plan.

Personally, I've not been able to eat carbs in moderation. So, for me, I have to avoid them like its my job. The high fat keeps me from eating everything in the house...most days.

I love coconut oil, but, I only use it for skin care. I make a sugar scrub with coconut oil, sugar and essential oils. I love it, my friends love it and it's cheap. Eating the stuff, just can't hack the thought.

My default cooking oil has been olive oil since I started cooking for reals lol!

I use coconut oil for skin and hair care. I make an essential oil hair-mask of egg yolk, coconut and macadamia oils and avocado. I just enough ingredients to make a paste and rub on my scalp, tgen gently comb through. I bought a foil hair cap at Sally's that keeps the heat in.

I also have used coconut oil for my vegetable stir frying, but for some reason default to olive oil.
I watched the Keto Summit video casts and the recommended avocado oil for cooking. I found a coconut and avocado oil blend at Sprouts and have used to cook this past week. Other the noticeable price, i haven't noticed or tasted a difference. However, I use sparingly and have oil spray dispenser.

One thing I have learned through this last year about trigger foods is that I can easily moderate if things are stable in my life, if there many stressful circumstances will and reasoning go out the window. So I have tried to learn and deal with stressful situations differently, and trust you me living with my son and family has really been a good lab to practice.

Another thing that I have found (through therapy) that deprivation leads to binging eventually for me, and finding that middle ground is not easy but it is obtainable through understanding the root cause of triggers.

I am self proclaimed foodie, I love trying out new cuisines at restaurants and at home. I thought for a long time that I was going to have to forget about that part of me. I believe now, through understanding the psychology of food and how it affects me, I can still enjoy all foods with moderation, and that may look differently from time to time. What I do know is that if I eat with guilt, and having some negative belief around the food I have eaten, it not only affects me physically, such as IBS or headache or stomach aches, but also mentally, feeling badly about myself. I'm pretty tired of that cycle.

I've been using coconut oil for cooking and baking since I entered maintenance. With it, my weight has been remarkably stable. The polyunsaturated oils (e.g. corn oil, vegetable oil) are worse for us.

In fact, I pan-seared my ground turkey patties in coconut oil today. They tasted delicious.

I think there is still controversy over the coconut oil. I have not used it myself, as the Italian in me always goes for the olive oil. But mostly because I have just never used it and not sure if all the properties are the same as cooking with other oils.

    Hello everyone,
I haven't checked in in quite some time. I had Gastric Sleeve in 2014. I weighed in at 250 pounds and am now at 138 pounds. I feel great
My problem has been to ensure I have adequate nutrition and find it difficult to swallow some vitamins and don't like protein shakes. I recently came across some amazing products that are formulated for 90% absorption and some are gels/sprays rather than large capsules. I have been taking the products for about 3 weeks and feel much better. Please check them out and let me know if you have any questions or want to talk further about the products. As an RN, I am truly impressed with the liposomal science behind the products and feel they can benefit MANY people, especially post WLS.
Text me or email me with any questions you may have!
