Sista Black, don't be nervous, own it and be happy you did something for yourself, you deserve it and it is good for your kids to see you do something for yourself. There comes a time when it is time to start living again and the younger you do and never quit, the better off you and your loved ones are. I know because I am 54 and didn't. Part of your nervousness is probably a bit of hormonal changes from surgery. Us women tend to do that ... I wish you all the best on your new journey, be graceful with goodness of heart and true to yourself and the rest will follow.

    Hello and welcome!
you did the right thing to help your health and feel better. I know I do feel so much better in my lighter body!! It's true the first few weeks/months are not easy but it will get better.
It's important to keep a positive attitude even during bad days, because things will improve. Follow your guideline, eat/drink really slowly at first, have enough protein per day, drink water, take your vitamins etc...and you will do great!! Expect plateaus and stalls, it's all normal, but at the end the number will be huge. It is a journey but so worth it!!! Come in here if you have questions, people will answer, it's a great community! take care!

I really love this response from do reh

I was a very thin and undernourished child when I arrived in the USA when I was 10.5 years old. After a year here I ballooned up through 6 grade and Junior High. The summer before I started High School I lost a lot of the weight and then some because I was literally grounded (skipped the last day of school and my crazy mother found out). After she beat the s#%^ out of me I was not allowed out of my room and she only fed me black bean soup, a glass of milk and a slice of bread the whole summer. Today she tells everyone it was just a week, but how did I lose close to fifty pounds? Anyway thats a rant for another day.

I stayed thin throughout my teens until my second pregnancy at 23 years old, I gained over 80lbs due to toxemia and gestational diabetes and my son is now 28 years old. After finally being diagnosed with Type2 Diabetes and Cholesterol levels November 2015. I knew the Sleeve Gastrectomy was my only solution after years of losing and regaining two fold. I have been Diabetes free since a month after surgery and my Cholesterol levels have stayed within normal levels too!

I have been morbidly obese most of my adult life. And now while I still haven't reached my idea of my ideal goal weight I love the woman that's emerging! I feel snd look younger than I ever did, and I feel wonderful!

Every single day I am grateful for my decision to go through WLS, and I am humbled and in awe by my own transformation.

I truly hope you learn to love the woman in the mirror looking back at you as you reach your health goals.

I can relate very much. I have always been some degree of overweight, even when I was growing up, I always heard that I was plump or chunky. I'm as worried about the psychological impact almost as much as the new way of eating etc. My surgery is on Monday. I've nervous to say the very least.

There are several books that have been instrumental to my WLS journey. I highly recommend Marianne Williamson "A Course in Weight Loss" and the other is "Intuitive Eating" by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch.

Wishing the best wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

It's hard to believe that something you do for yourself gives your family sooooo many benefits. I see now since reaching a much-more manageable weight that what I thought only affected me, actually spilled over onto all of them too. Make no mistake, I had surgery for ME because of mounting health issues, but the benefits have been across the board for my family of 4 grown children and 7 grandchildren. We are ALL happier and healthier because of this surgery. Good luck with your journey, I believe you will never regret it!
