    Question Vegetarian Diet

    Hi there,

Anyone have good suggestions for how to get your protein for a vegetarian? I'm a bit worried about that. And I am a little picky with my choices even in the vegetarian realm. I don't really care for tofu or cottage cheese. I'm a little iffy on yogurt too especially the greek version.

I loved lentil soup, Dahl (a spicy Indian lentil dish), Saag Paneer (an Indian creamed spinach with cheese), Miso soup with lots of soft tofu. If you eat Cottage Cheese, I just found a delicious high protein with yogurt cultures kind. I found it at Sprouts Market if you have in your area. It is 19g protein for approximately 5oz or 2/3 cup serving.

Fa!rlife milk has higher protein than regular milk, longer shelf life, and is lactose free. It is a great additive to your vegetarian life style. I am adding some protein sources for you. Not sure if you eat fish, but added that as well. I know some vegetarians do.

I would recommend beans and eggs. Eggs are a ball packed with protein and I know that is where I get most of my protein along with oatmeal-extra protein added! Good luck on your surgery, I know its coming up soon! I am already back to work and I hope you have a speedy recovering as well!

Thank you so much! That is helpful. From somewhere I heard that gas is a problem. That may only be right after surgery. So I was a little scared of beans. So this is good to know. Glad you are feeling well and able to already be back to work. Keep me posted. I'm anxious and more nervous right now than excited.

The first month after surgery bears zero resemblance to what your eventual post-op life will be like. Likewise, the first six months don't resemble the next year. But you can deal with everything as it comes.

Just take it one day, one week, one month, one year as it comes. Be ready to adapt. You can do that.

I also definitely recommend eggs, and beans. Though I will caution you that you MAY find egg yolk to be too rich post-op.

I was shocked when I realized I had to eat egg whites instead; I've always LOVED my yolks. It's getting better now, just a bit over 5 months post-op. I still find I need to be careful on how much fat I take in because it can make me feel nauseated.
