Default Friday Check-In and this week's NSVs!

    Happy Friday!

My goodness, how time flies! already mid-June and tomorrow is my 13th month post op. I will weight myself and take formal measurements, but already I can tell you my waist/hips reduced from last week. I loaned my mom my only pair of jean shorts that fit me last weekend, today I was looking for them and remembered she took them.

Some few month back I was at the Levi's outlet and they had a sale and I bought one pair of Women's jean shorts that fit perfect size 10 with Lycra. Men's jean shorts were even more reduced and bought two waist size 30". Now I knew they wouldn't fit, but today it is super hot and no decent shorts to wear out. Sooo... I took both out and there is one that wouldn't even go up my hips, well guess what!?! it went up nicely and still have a good two inches before I can zip up. I tried the second pair which have a little give and not only did they go up my hips!!! they have about 1" inch before I can zip up.

Sure enough I pulled up my measuring tape and my waist is 32.5" and hips 41.5"!!!

Another NSV worth mentioning is that I pulled out summer dresses size 12's I bought last summer (around July, and about 2 months post op) and they are loose and are not flattering at all!

Also endurance in pool laps are increasing!

Warm regards from sunny SoCal! Have an amazing weekend ahead!

That's awesome!! You'll be wearing those in no time. It stinks that the dresses are too big but it also rocks because you exceeded your expectations!!! Yay!!

    Thanks, Odessa!

My understanding from initial conversations with my surgeon was that the Sleeve Gastrectomy would help me lose approximately 60% of my excess weight with ease which I already passed when I hit 177lbs (9-Months Post-Op). Anything after that he said it would require a total commitment to lifestyle change that incorporated healthy and balanced diet and exercise. According to my DEXA Body Composition Scan results (first blogged about it around September '16) My Ideal fat/muscle/bone mass ratio would between 145lbs-165lbs.

I followed all the post op rules almost to the T mostly. My weightloss on the scale is just showing slower than molasses on a winters day, but I am not discouraged one bit! Inches just melted off me, and by the looks of it still are!

I honestly think it's sad a good percentage of folks here are obsessed weight (number) goals. Seriously. If you think about it what does it mean? I just recently heard a saying "Check yourself before you Wreck yourself" about people who just focus on numbers forget about the journey and lessons that need to be learned for permanent success.

My ultimate goal for choosing WLS was to stay Diabetes free and keep Cholesterol and Cardiovascular diseases on check! I have been able to maintain that since one month post op. I have done my quarterly post op check-ups and labs which have come back with stellar results and my Bariatric doctor suggested annual visit now, I asked him for a six month follow up. My current primary care doctor found from labs results I took to him from my previous PCP that my metabolism is on the sluggish side. He took more tests and came back the same, and we both agreed that I do not need hypothyroid prescription medication
(for now). Besides without proper nutrition and exercise hypothyroid therapy wouldn't help me lose weight any faster. But one of the reasons I have invested in learning about WLS post op digestion and nutrition, and I am committed 100% to taking my daily multivitamin and supplements is to help along the overall feeling of well being, which I don't feel when I lack my vitamins or supplements.

I also want to be in a normal fat percentage for my gender, ethnicity, age and height and all those things as well as DEXA results taken into consideration. At 165lbs I would be at the high end. I still have about 30lbs to reach my idea of ideal weight. So I will just keep on chugging along for as long as it takes to get there and stay there.
