Default Live Webinar on Keto/Paleo Summit

    Folks,

I subscribe to Louise Hendon's Paleo recipe listserve, and got this interesting invitation to attend their Keto Summit (via live webinar) with expert speakers on the Keto and Paleo Lifestyles.

Personally while I don't follow the low-carb recommendation, however, I do follow the protein first rule for Sleeve Gastrectomy WLS patients. I eat a well balanced nutrient rich diet (lifestyle) that includes fruits, vegetables and whole grains, seeds and nuts. I am, however, an advocate of learning new things and see if I can incorporate in my daily living.

I have many friends who have autoimmune deficiencies, allergies to all sorts of foods, are celiacs, and they have been able to control their diseases and allergies by going Paleo. When I followed a PaleoBetic (Paleo and Diabetic) diet pre and post op I lost weight and specially inches (drastically) I just felt it was so restrictive and not lifelong sustainable for me (most likely because of my passive aggressiveness tendencies, and need to feel free and liberated from food restrictions) though obviously my friends have been able to stick to it for years and it is part of who they are. It works for them somehow.

If you are interested here the link to sign-up for the upcoming live webinar: http://l.paleomagazine.com/keto-summit

Note: This is not for WLS patients specifically, but to learn more about the Keto and Paleo Lifestyle.

I watched (fast forwarded some) first video. I was able to ask questions and get live answers from host immediately! Loved it! Two things I got out of it was the that Olive Oil is good as salad dressing but not cooking, I know avocado and coconut oils have benefits but really have not incorporated in my daily life. I still use a little olive oil. I asked her to expand on why it is bad to cook with olive oil. She said because of the smoke affect, but gave me two great links if you are interested here they are:

Also found a link to make a proper Paleo Latte : https://paleomagazine.com/the-ultimate-paleo-coffee/

I never deep fry and have been using olive oil to cook, it's just fine. The smoke point is a really high temperature. Avocado and great for high temperature but for some reason I don't like the taste that much. In my nutrition classes they actually teach us to alternate oils to get more benefice. So for salad dressing I sometimes use walnut or hazelnut... I actually love to use duck fat to cook when I'm in France, I don't usually do it often but the taste with anything is just fabulous...

Sandra, def right I don't fry anything and really never use high temp unless I am searing.

I love coconut oil and use, but always default to olive oil. I will have to try avocado oil to taste.

Standard BPC uses 1 tablespoon each of butter and coconut oil, then whatever cream you like.

thats like...300 calories a cup. It's ok if that's all you're having in the morning. If I'm low on calories or fat at the end of the day (which never happens any more) I'll drink a cup.

BPC was great when I was still losing quickly though, and it's really yummy! I thought it'd be nasty with all that fat, but a plain ole whisker worked fine to blend it up so there wasn't a layer of fat sitting on the top.

    great, now I'm craving BPC....LOL

I'm struggling to up my calories to 1500-1600 unless I add more carbs (more salads, vegetables and fruits) because they are soooo much easier to consume. It's still hard to consume larger amounts of protein because I get full.

I might try the Paleo Coffee version this week.

Though it's a bit unsettling the thought about taking all that extra fat.
