so im just wandering how hard was it to lose the weight before surgery? and what are some tips that i can use to stay on track? For ppl with Gastricparesis howwell does this procedure help?
Hello Martini!
Your Gastricparesis is related to diabetes? I was reading about your condition a few weeks ago and the author was saying that many things could cause it but if it was diabetes a sleeve would help a lot. If I remember what article it was I will send you a link.
Loosing weight pre-op is important to help the surgeon perform the surgery in the best conditions possible. Knowing that my safety was depending on my diet I was never tempted to "cheat"! I lost some weight by myself and then the surgeon asked me to do a two weeks diet with two shakes per day and one dinner (protein and non starchy veggies). At first I felt a little sick for 3 days (from carb and coffee withdraw, gave me migraines) but from there is was easy and I was fine. It's just important to drink plenty of water to flush the toxins!
Good luck and take care!

Welcome, I have GP and reduced my med from 4 to 2x a day. I had trouble loosing weight before and surgery had allowed me to loose quickly. I've lost 99 lbs since January 2017. Best thing I've ever did. I also have a few other diseases I deal with too. My life is now amazing and my health is finally stable. I'm happy to answer any questions. My GP is not caused by diabetes either. Good luck to you.
Your Welcome, When I went on my doctors Pre-op diet, I did start loosing weight. He had me do a protein shake for Breakfast and lunch and lean protein and veggies for dinner. I was ready to make major lifestyle changes before and after surgery. I drink lots of water and make sure to get my protein in first, then veggies and will have some fruit with my snack. Also I make sure not to drink for at least 30min after eating. If I'm home I will have a popsicle which helps.I also try not to eat fast to try to prevent over eating. I found exercise I enjoy and mix it up occasionally. I also found activities I love that keep me active. I don't sit around on weekends anymore. I joined multiple hiking groups and a cycling group. This allows me to always have someone to do things with. I dreamed about living this life when I was so overweight and sick. I have MS, CHF, osteoarthritis all over, Addison's disease, thyroid issues and now have no thyroid. I worked hard with a therapist to figure out why I was using food to deal with my life circumstances. Very important to figure out why you became overweight in order to insure success after surgery. The Sleeve alone won't give you the success your looking for unless your ready to make a lifestyle change and change your eating. You will still be able to eat lots of bad foods called slider foods. Like chips. They just slide right in and will not fill you up allowing you to consume lots of calories. Were protein will fill you up quickly. I attend a support group once a month through the Bariatric Surgery department of my local hospital. Once you start eating healthy you usually don't crave the bad food. I crave healthy food now. It took a second at the beginning to change my brain after surgery. I found lots of healthy recipes to try and enjoy. Cooking doesn't have to be tasteless. Lots of calorie free seasonings and fresh herbs to cook with. When I fill like pasta a use protein pasta,it taste great. Hope this helps. If you have anymore questions I'm here for you. This can be a very fun ride. Wish you much success, T
