Fast Weightloss after Surgery, Concerned!

Hi all,

I recently had the sleeve on June 6th this month and have lost 18 pounds in less than 6 days after surgery. I am wondering if this is too much too fast?? I have heard if you are a higher BMI to start with that could be why I am losing more. Just concerned that this isn't healthy. I have been following the post-op diet to a tea also. Just looking for some answers.

What do the Dr's say? I don't have an opinion or any medical expertise to give you, but if the Dr's are not concerned, keep following all advice about your diet and supplements. Maybe you're alarmed due to some other underlying issues that you have to work through?

It is not uncommon for those who start over 300 to drop big numbers and quickly. I would not be too concerned unless you are feeling bad. I can tell you that those kind of numbers will not last so enjoy it now. Just follow the rules and you will be fine. I would suggest following up with your surgeon if you are having complications but rapid weight loss at this stage is not an issue. Good luck!

Did you do a pre-op diet? Not everyone does (I didn't), and if not, some of that is probably water weight. It does slow down, but a big initial drop is common.

I was sleeved on 6/5 and as of today (6/23) I'm down 15 - 20lbs. It has slowed down a little -- as long as you're doing the necessary things and keeping up with your protien and fluid intake, it should be okay. If you are really concerned, I'd contact the surgeon and/or the dietician to get their input.

I would just ensure that you are getting adequate protein and vitamins/minerals you need to stay healthy. If you start to feel bad-- light headed, dizzy, nauseous, etc. I would reach out to my MD.

My problem has been to ensure I have adequate nutrition and find it difficult to swallow some vitamins and don't like protein shakes.
