Nevermind : )
Omg that is awful, thank you for thinking of others and forewarning them. I guess that i why they insisted for you to attend that appointment coz they knew it was worth so much to them. I hope you get some resolution that is fair especially to you
That is terrible. They do the same thing when you go through insurance. They tell you a certain amount and then you will have random bills come in afterwards and think WTF?? I also wish I had gone to Mexico...and I was not hosed over like you were but at least going there you know that you are paying exactly what they quote you at. Good luck.
I was self-pay in the states, and was quoted a price that included EVERYTHING before, during, and after surgery. Any bill that showed up after surgery, I just sent back, and they took care of it. Loved them! I didn't pay a penny over their original quote.
Recently I've been reading about a lot of surgeons who appear to be very unethical with their "secret" charges. That's sad. Couldn't you report them to the American Medical Association or something? Sorry for all your difficulties!
I was self pay as well, also in the states. Mine was one price including everything. I think it was somewhere around $10k (possibly 10,800, but no more) and I did not receive a single bill. I was responsible for my pre-op testing, but I just went to urgent care, and my insurance covered that.
I'll tell you though, I did not have reflux prior to surgery. I have it something awful now. On the flip side, my mother had it awful before surger, and she's better after. You just never know how it's going to go.
I hope everything works out for you.

I had mine done in Mexico and I was quoted $3500. When I got there he told me that he ended up double booked for that day and he would split the cost of a hospital room with me if I wanted him to do it in the hospital. So I ended up paying $500 more. I did not realize prior to getting there that he did not plan to do it at the hospital and that he performs the majority right there at this clinic. I was actually very happy. The $500 was so worth it. I received excellent care there. I had no other hidden bills at all. They also covered my night stay in the hotel in Tijauna, which I chose to decline and went and stayed in San Diego and paid for my own room there. But I was scared about hidden costs too. I also never had to have any pre-op tests done prior to my booking my surgery. This might be because I didn't have any pre-existing conditions. I filled out their forms they said I was a good candidate and told me to book my flight to make sure I landed before noon in San Diego. They picked me up at airport, took me to clinic and I had their pre-op tests done and went to hospital an hour later and had the surgery that night.
I sure hope you have better luck with your surgeon in Mexico. I would be devastated to have all of those costs suddenly dumped on me for nothing!
