    Default Not able to eat

Ok wondering if anybody is having problems eating anything a month out besides shakes and yougurt? I have these past couple days it's not only the sight of food but also the smell is not appealing. It literally makes me nauseous. So I am drinking my protein shakes and getting my water in but that is about it. It feels like I have a sour stomach with a rock sitting in there. Anyone out there that has had this or is going through it. Need some advice if there is something I can do or how long this phase will last?
    Thanks

I was nauseous for 6/7 months post-op, anything and everything was a trigger, a smell, being hungry, in pain, several types of food etc...but staying hydrated is also a big help to fight nausea so try to drink as much as possible between meals. When it was time to switch from full liquid to soft food, I had to stay on full liquid one more week because my stomach couldn't take it. My solution with soft food was to eat very slowly bites the size of a peanut. Seems extreme but that's what worked for me. Always measure what you eat, I started with half a cup, switch to one cup around six months. With time everything will get better. Take it slow and you will do fine! take care!

Thank you Sandra3. Those are some great suggestion. Not really liking the 6 to 7 month side effects. I am sorry yours was that long I sure hope and pray mine doesn't last that long. Also did you have the sour/rock in stomach feeling all the time?

The first month is the worth for many people, hopefully you will feel better really soon! I was expecting to be nauseous post-op because any anesthesia makes me sick. Not many people are nauseous that long, don't worry! And I suspect that those long months were also a side effect of the PPI because as soon as I was able to lower the dosage my nausea almost disappeared. I did have an "heavy feeling" in my stomach but mostly after drinking or eating. I felt that for may be three months. It was weird but eating slowly was really helping.
Also for the nausea I did take " MediNatura, BHI, Nausea, 100 Tablets" always had those in my purse for months, it did help a lot.
But if you feel bad you should ask adice to your surgeon. When is your next post-op? I had one at one week, one month 3 months etc.. if your surgeon is too far may be a GP could help? take care!

Yeah, I had trouble for the first 6 weeks ish. What I didn't realize was that my 'slow eating' was actually too fast. We need to take a FULL minute or even TWO between each swallow of food, and small bites WELL chewed are essential as well. If you're not taking a PPI you should ask your Dr. about taking Omeprazole (acid reducer) it really helped me.

Also, everyone is right about hydration. Constant sips, staying hydrated really helps.
HW: 297+lbs ( stopped weighing myself, it was probably 318 ish)
    Pre-op: 280 lbs (-17 lbs)

CW: 142 lbs -Down 178 lbs from my highest actual weight!

    Week 1: 270
    M1: 257
    Week 6: 255
    M2: 252
    Week 10: 241
    M3: 237
    Week 14: 234

    GW: 145 lbs

As long as you're getting in your water and protein shakes, you'll be fine. Everyone's different, I was able to eat most soft foods at one month out, but many others are not. You are still healing so it's totally normal. The phase will be over before you know it.

I sort of long for those days where I couldn't eat much! Now I have to be very careful about what I eat, because I can eat anything and everything!

I did. I was eating very small meals and only very soft or pureed foods. Tuna, scrambled eggs, pudding, etc.

I always felt nauseous after a few bites in the beginning. I can still feel that way if I eat too fast or too much. I learned that if I ate very slow and less...I felt better. I never had nausea from the smell of foods, though. Wishing you lots of luck!

I am having trouble as well. Almost 3 weeks out, having trouble with food and belly feels sore. Taking it a bit at a time. it make take me almost 2 hours to complete a shake, everything feels so heavy. A few small spoons of yogurt and was done. Drinking all day makes me so full. Guess we have to take it a day even minutes at a time.
