Default 2 weeks post-op and feeling awesome!

    Hi Everyone,

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here. I’ve been traveling for more than a month and have finally settled back down at home.

Thank you, Alynn for checking on me! I’m sorry it took so long to respond. I guess I should have taken my laptop with me but I felt like I might not be able to carry it all after surgery.

First of all, I had my surgery on May 23rd…Yay! Absolutely no regrets so far, even though I hear almost everyone goes through a regret phase at some point.

My Surgeon is Dr. Toby Broussard in Oklahoma City at Weightwise. I traveled from Washington State to OKC for the surgery and I stayed at a hotel for a little over a week after just so I felt more comfortable to fly and I could do a one week follow up with my surgeon and dietician on site.

I can’t say enough about all the people at Weightwise. I absolutely love, love, love my surgeon. He’s so real and down to earth, I feel comfortable with him and that’s a very good thing because we will be having a long-distance relationship with regular check-ins and such, just like you would as a local patient. The dieticians are absolutely awesome and I felt like I came away empowered. Again, it’s another relationship I’ll maintain very closely on this journey.

This coming Tuesday (6/6/17) I will be at the two-week mark (soft foods phase) and I feel fabulous at the moment. I have tons of energy!

A quick snippet about surgery day and the day after: This is the very first surgery I’ve come out in tons of pain. Not to scare anyone, but the first hour or two was absolute hell for me and I’ve never had that happen in any of my previous (two stomach and others) surgeries. It was the gas and once I got walking I felt much better. Now here’s the other part I didn’t really know or understand, I had to drink 96 fluid ounces after the procedure before they would release me. I think I thought it would be like my other surgeries where I’d get up and walk a bit, flip through some channels, read some emails, etc., etc. Nope. I worked my a** off to get those fluids down 15ml at a time, and in order to do it, personally, I had to also walk. If I sat or laid down, I couldn’t get it down. I wish I had been wearing my Fitbit because I’d love to know how far I walked! Now I don’t think that was true for all the patients that were there that night.

Each and everyday post surgery has gotten a little better. I think I handled it all very well and I am still working my a** off to get 96 ounces of fluids in every day. It’s freakin hard! But, my surgeon and dietician tell me it’s a must!

This Tuesday I can take a bath (Yay!) and I can have Greek yogurt, eggs, string cheese, cottage cheese, etc. Honestly, I have only had the feeling of hunger a couple of times in the last two weeks, but I am looking forward to moving forward. In fact, the night I got home from OKC I made my husband and sister grilled steaks and clam chowder and didn’t even flinch! I served them their food and I had a cup of broth and was perfectly happy.

Yes!!! I was the same way for about an hour or so post op until the meds kicked in and I feel asleep. I was in pain and was dry heaving like crazy. It was my only time when I questioned my decision. But once I woke up and started sipping and walking all that doubt went away. And I also had previous surgeries, to include 2 C-sections, and never felt the way I did after the sleeve. But am so thankful that awful feeling was so short lived.
Glad to hear you like your surgeon and nutritionist. I feel the same about mine. Like I hit the jackpot with them as they are amazing and seem to truly care about my long term success. Congrats on your surgery and wishing you continued success.

You and I got sleeved the same day! The first 5 days i was doing awesome but the last few days I've been so tired and lethargic. I did start pureed chicken yesterday to see if it would help. I'm doing just fine now. I'm shocked on how little I can eat of it! I can't tell how good the chicken tasted!
Great job on the weight loss! Keep up the good work.

Are you taking any vitamins? Make sure you are getting enough fluids. If you are dehydrated that can affect your energy levels.

I had my surgery on 5/22 and I agree the gas pains are REAL! I was not really excepting that much pain from gas but it was there. Luckily mine only lasted for a short time. The walking helped and once I was home the GasX strips helped a lot. If you are getting 96oz in a day that is amazing! I was excited I go 40oz in yesterday! Keep up the great work!

Wow Tonia, you are doing GREAT!!!! I appreciate you talking about the pain afterwards. I am scheduled for surgery in a few weeks and it helps to know what to expect. I don't want to think... "Oh God this is not right" and freak out!

    Continued success to you!!! (hugs)

Christie is spot on! I've been drinking my 96 ounces every day and my energy is super high. I don't start my vitamins until tomorrow so I really do feel the water is playing a key role in how great I feel.

Please do try to push yourself to get in more fluids. I know it's hard, but you are at greater risk of dehydration as a bariatric patient now. Please be careful and take care. I can't believe you've already lost 31 pounds - that's amazing!
    Reason: typo!
