Hello new friends. I will be sleeved in just two days, so am brand new to the site. I look forward to the association and know there are many of you who are post surgery that have so much more experience than I at this new lifestyle. If you have any last minute tips, advice, favorite strategies or foods, I am all ears! Thanks so much!

This is a very exciting time for you! I'm sure you know what to expect or you wouldn't have gotten as far as being approved for the surgery. Don't worry if you sincerely regret your decision for the first couple of days post surgery. It's a rough couple of days. But the advice of sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk is absolutely correct. Hopefully, you have all your post-op meds already in hand. Most people really don't need much once they go home from the hospital. Many people (me included) needed something for acid reflux for at least a while during the healing process. Do as much exercise and movement as you feel comfortable with, but don't be too concerned for a good few weeks about "exercising". You may not have the energy and stamina that you had before but that gets better and better. All in all, there is a reason so many people have had this surgery...it's a wonderful tool to use to reach your goal. Best wishes and Welcome!

Very exciting time! I had mine done on Monday. Get GasX strips. I had a terrible time with gas! lol They will give you baby gas drops in the hospital but the strips work better! Walk, walk, walk........it is crazy but the more I moved the better I felt. I actually photographed a session yesterday afternoon and although I was tired during and after and thought I overdid it....this morning I felt better than yesterday! I purchased the drinks from the doctor for the two weeks after surgery and those are my go to for protein. I keep saying this. Fudgsicles are my BFF. lol Good Luck. You will do great!

Thanks for the advice! I have my GasX strips, and love the walking tip. I'm getting excited! Incidentally, I happened to live in Covington many moons ago. I love LA!

Don't bring too much to the hospital. You won't use much of it. I suggest a pillow because hospital beds are uncomfortable. Warm socks, slippers, loose comfy clothes, shoes you can slip on and not have to tie, toiletries (to include lip balm & lotion), a magazine, your phone, a heating pad, and a charger. If you are traveling for your surgery I recommend compression garments...particularly full length compression socks. You will feel sleepy and a little cruddy post op but it gets easier each day. Have your doctor prescribe you liquid anti nausea and pain meds. You may not need them much but if you do, you will be glad you have them. Make sure that post op you get up and walk as frequently as tolerable and also sip frequently. You will not feel thirsty or hungry and your throat may be sore from intubation. I did not like the sweet taste of shakes immediately post op. I preferred savory. I also did better with warm liquids. I had tea, broth, and creamed soups made with nonfat milk. And then sugar free popsicles. As it got easier to swallow and tolerate normal or cold liquids then I was able to get in protein shakes. The first week is definitely the hardest but I promise it will be worth it! I am going to be 7 months post op on the 3rd of June and I am almost to goal already!

Most important. Take pictures and measurements before you go in. You will be able to use them when you need encouragement.

Make sure to have your biotin and other vitamins ready to start on after surgery. Prenatal helps with hair loss - I had next to no hair loss
