Sleeved 12 days ago and I'm hungry

My first post- So I was sleeved on the 15th and it was rough. Lots of pain and feeling so weak. So now I'm 12 days out and I'm hungry. I'm following the diet but I feel like I could eat or want to eat a big meal. Anyone else? I was hoping my hunger pains wouldn't start so soon.

First off, you may be experiencing acid reflux, which post op can feel like hunger pangs. I would ask your doctor for a PPI. Also, what phase are you on? If you are still on liquids then it could be mental hunger. I know once you are eating real foods you will not be feeling hungry all the time. I am almost 7 months out and I still can't eat a whole lot so I would be willing to bet it is mental hunger and not physical.

It certainly could be mental. I'm still on liquids so chicken broth, SF Jello, SF popsicles, and protein drinks are all I have. While feeding my family, It's killing me to not be able to eat what they are. I was hoping that the feelings of wanting that food wouldn't be so strong already. ��

When you start eating real food you are not constantly thinking about food. It is the not being able to "eat" anything that makes you "think" you are hungry. It is a little better on soft foods but once real foods come in to play it is a lot better. Just remember when you are able to eat do it very slowly so you know when you feel the "full". In the beginning it is very easy to overeat (because we can only eat a few bites) and when you do...it is painful. So you will want to eat slow and wait between bites to see how you feel.

Acid can mimic hunger pains. If you aren't already, start taking a PPI like Prilosec or Nexium. If you are already on a PPI, try taking Rolaids or Maalox when you feel "hungry". Thirst can also mimic hunger. You don't have a weight listed, but you should be drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces (ex. 200 pounds = 100 ounces). If it's anything other than actual physical pain in your abdomen or lightheadness or severe weakness, then it's mental hunger, not real hunger.

As others said it might be the acid reflux. I know for me when I drink protein shakes in the AM I get this horrible rumble in my stomach still even 5 years out and I usually just make a cup of hot tea and that stops it.

I feel the same, I was sleeved 9 days ago, I hope it goes away soon.
