    Default long term loss

I had the band in 2005, lost 40 lbs then slowly gained everything back plus some. My insurance will take it out and pay for the sleeve. I would like to know what percentage have lost and kept their weight off and for how long. Thank you for the information.

    I'll go first ....

I had the sleeve in August 2014. Lost 100 pounds (took nearly a year and a half). Have maintained my 100-pound weight loss ever since.

Caveat: I'm pretty disciplined, e.g., I still plan and track my daily meals on My Fitness Pal, exercise at least 5 days a week, and follow all the "eating rules" I was taught early in this journey.

    Good luck.

I guess I'm the second respondent...

I was sleeved in April 2015, so I'm a little more than two years out. You can look at my signature block below this post to see my monthly losses. Similarly to Ann2, I lost 100 pounds over 18 months and entered maintenance in September 2016.

I've been able to maintain my weight loss since entering maintenance, although I am fully aware that my 25 months of sleeved experience doesn't equate to veteran weight loss surgery status.

I was sleeved September 2014 and lost 28 pounds in the 3 months before surgery than another 192 in the next 17 months. So far I've kept it off by eating at least 100 grams of protein a day and drinking at least 100 oz of water. I also do some type of "exercise" every day, from swimming, lifting weight, walking the dog, biking to yard work. Just find a way to be active. I've been at a stable weight since February 2016, so I wouldn't consider myself a veteran

Ok I am newer but my sister was sleeved 5 1/2 years ago and has maintained her weight loss for 4 1/2 years. It took her a year to lose the 100 lbs that she lost and has kept off.

Hi I was sleeved March 2014 and have lost 43 kgs or 95 pounds and seem to be stable at this weight give or take 2kgs. I can definitely eat more now but they are probably normal size portions not the massive meals I managed to consume before my sleeve. I also have a active job that sees me walking and lifting a lot which is my gym workout that helps me keep it off, just another bonus of the weight loss as I could not have done this job before and just sat behind a desk getting unhealthier.

I was sleeved in June 2012 - 182 to 98 in 6 months - too small so I upped my intake and got up to 105 where I liked to be. Due to thyroid meds the idiot doctor put me on (noooo it's not the meds that causes weight gain it's YOU she says - yeah um hum sure thing so me getting up to 123 in a month of taking synthroid is my fault?) so last time I was there she poo pooed me one time too many and as I walked out of her office I tossed the meds in the trash. Anyway - I got back on protein shakes and really watching my carb and sugar intake and with a little under 2 months the scale shows 107 yesterday. Not sure if it helped or not but I started taking magnesium in the morning with my other vitamins.

Great to see so many old friends. I had surg. in April/12 reached goal and beyond in 15 months. maintained with exercise until early this year. Ran into physical issue and unable to be active, forgot to decrease intake and gained 15 pounds. Back to basics and have lost 10 of those dreaded pounds.
I had sleeve in 09 lost about 40 lbs and started gaining. I was 230 for both operations. Sleeve is my best friend. You can see from the other long time sleevers that staying aware of food intake and exercise is the answer. With the sleeve I do not fight hunger but have to control my head. lol Best of luck to you and welcome. Joanne

Sleeved December 2013. Lost 100 pounds in 10 months. 3 1/2 year out and still maintaining within 5 pounds of my low weight.....but not without serious psychological commitment. Self help books, seeing a therapist, and an addiction recovery program has been the key to my long term success, not my surgery. I have to work hard on the mental part every single day. Regain would be VERY easy.

Two years ago I posted about magnesium's mechanisms in the body with regards to weight regulation. Click on the link below if you're interested in reading more.

Personally, I take a magnesium glycinate supplement twice a day. This is a highly absorbable form. The stuff you find in Walmart and Walgreens is magnesium oxide, of which only 3 percent is absorbed by the body per pill.
