Default 3 Week Post op - Now what?

I am 3 wks post op sleeve, 2 wks gallbladder removal. I am on a pureed diet of pretty much what ever can be pureed. My guide book says cream of wheat, mash potatoes, chilli, casseroles, etc...

I had lost 22lbs since the end of March but now have gained 5 lbs.

I am not a meat eater, but am trying. Tuna has been my best source so far. Protein shakes are not going down well and I have been avoiding them. Was doing well with water intake but now not so much.

Taking Flintstones vitamin as I wasn't tolerating the others. Nut said not too worry about them just heal.

Have no energy and have had three migraines in 7 days.
Anyone have a flavorless non-chalky, protein powder they can recommend?

I use the premade Premier Protein shakes. They aren't chalky because they're already mixed. There is always a slow-down in weight loss when you go from full liquid to soft foods. The water is key. Find something that falls into the water category to get in your full daily allotment, you will see the scale move again. Good that you like tuna

It always amazes me how different each person's diet is. I've been on pureed for one month now (only one more week to go) and I haven't been able to 'puree' beef, chicken, pork -or God forbid...fish. The texture and taste is horrible for me, and I can't keep it down, let alone 'IN" my stomach. I've been able to eat what the rest of my surgeon's papers tell me to eat, which are "tuna, scrambled eggs, and no sugar added natural creamy peanut butter" and vegetable based soups (which I DO not adhere to... I have been eating cream soup with non fat milk.) I've had some cottage cheese with a no sugar added cling peach (oh yeah, I'm a rebel!) and that's about it for now. One week until soft, moist meats and I am not sure how that's going to work for me. I tried a bite of smashed up chicken the other day and I was off and running to the bathroom!
Good for you for being able to eat!

What is your fluid intake? If it's low, that could account for your headaches. The low protein/high carb diet you are on will definitely result in no energy. Not to mention restricting your weightloss altogether. You need to strive for 60-80g protein/day and 100+ ounces of water every day. There are plenty of protein sources you can try if you don't like meat...refried beans, tofu, eggs, Fairlife milk, Greek Yogurt (read labels carefully because some of these can be very high in carbs.....I actually ate plain Greek yogurt flavored with protein powder.). At the very least, add unflavored protein powder to all the casseroles, cream of wheat and mashed potatoes you are eating. In the meantime, experiment with different recipes to see if you can discover a way to like chicken, fish, beef, pork, ham, etc, since it's dense proteins that are going to help the most with losing and maintaining that loss. Don't eat any carbs until your protein goals are met.

As for protein shakes, I liked Premier diluted 1/2 and 1/2 with milk, and Syntrax nectar the best. These come in a variety of flavors and mix up like koolaid....no chalkiness at all. Once you are on solids, try Quest bars or One bars. At 3+ years out I still eat these everyday to help meet protein goals.

Donald, you are RIGHT! The pre op diet hoops I had jumped through for surgery AND now my foods I am allowed to eat, as my husband says "prisoners are given more to eat", is comical, yet pathetic. I've not heard anyone's story even come close to my allowable post op eating.

Unjury unflavored protein. You can mix in anything. For soups, etc, make certain temperature does not go over 140 degrees. https://www.unjury.com/unjury-unflav...container.html

There are lots of other ways to get protein besides meat. I have some pictures on my page with good sources of protein. If you want, I can also email them to you. Just PM me your email.

Hi Christie, Thank you for your comment regarding protein. The pics you have posted are almost identical to info in my VGS handbook from my bariatrics office. Thank you for taking the time for me.
