What a relief it was today when I called our insurance company -once again to ask a question (something I have been doing regularly for weeks... trying to get a feel of what our portion of the hospital bill will be). It's finally been processed.
My deductible was $350. and was met pretty quickly after the beginning of the year. The surgeon's bill he submitted was over $15,000. and we owe him nothing.
The hospital submitted a claim for $131, 436. to our insurance company and forgot to send along the Medicare summary ( I have Part A medicare only--- just hospitalization) and it was denied. SO they resubmitted it with the summary for $130, 771. almost immediately, and was paid last Friday. (Medicare paid their part rather quickly.)
According to our insurance, the bill was taken care of, they paid what ever the negotiated rate was for the surgery. She said we owe nothing. Whew! I'm looking forward to getting the EOB that shows what the contracted rate was for the hospital. Very curious. $130,771. seems SO high. (Medicare paid over $10,000... for me staying overnight ONE NIGHT). And the hospital charged astronomical fees for the operating room and surgical devices. (One was for over $70,000. and the other was over $56,000.)
