Default The insurance has been taken care of, finally.

What a relief it was today when I called our insurance company -once again to ask a question (something I have been doing regularly for weeks... trying to get a feel of what our portion of the hospital bill will be). It's finally been processed.
My deductible was $350. and was met pretty quickly after the beginning of the year. The surgeon's bill he submitted was over $15,000. and we owe him nothing.

The hospital submitted a claim for $131, 436. to our insurance company and forgot to send along the Medicare summary ( I have Part A medicare only--- just hospitalization) and it was denied. SO they resubmitted it with the summary for $130, 771. almost immediately, and was paid last Friday. (Medicare paid their part rather quickly.)

According to our insurance, the bill was taken care of, they paid what ever the negotiated rate was for the surgery. She said we owe nothing. Whew! I'm looking forward to getting the EOB that shows what the contracted rate was for the hospital. Very curious. $130,771. seems SO high. (Medicare paid over $10,000... for me staying overnight ONE NIGHT). And the hospital charged astronomical fees for the operating room and surgical devices. (One was for over $70,000. and the other was over $56,000.)

Holy crap. $130K??? My hospital pay was $15K and I had to pay 10% of it. That was my biggest expense.

The $130,000. is what the hospital submitted. (Unreal!) I have NO idea yet what BCBS FEP's actual contractual agreement was for, but should find out soon when the explanation of benefits comes in. It was a nice relief to hear that we owe nothing more. Whew! And the surgeon charged over $15,000. Geez Louise. We owe him nothing either. Another WHEW!

I JUST printed out the EOB, they had it online as of last night. The hospital submitted the claim to our insurance for $130,771.48, and the allowable charges were $11, 877.04. We owe nothing more. If I was fit enough to do a cart wheel, I'd be whirling across the back yard!

I met the deductible of $350. just after the new year began. We paid for some tests beforehand, and the dr required a payment a week before surgery (which we'd never heard of before), so we're done now.

I was self-pay and paid $14,000 which included pre and post-op visits, blood work, everything. Sounds like they jacked up the price to take advantage of your insurance company.

that is seriously insane.... aside from the fact that my insurance has a bariatric exclusion.. another reason y I went to mexico... I paid $3700+my airfare of about $400....the cost of healthcare professionals is really ridiculous....there was no other way I would have ever been able to have surgery

Everything regarding insurance is insane! My deductible was $350. That was it, and with MY health issues (RA) I am always at the rheumy, and it was met in February. A gal I met in my doctor's office, and we had surgery the same morning, told me her deductible was $6,000. and she had to pay that before surgery in March. I was dumbfounded! Same doctor, same surgery, but different insurances.
