    Default Yes, I'm still alive!

    Hi guys,
Well, I had my gastric sleeve on 4/18, so today I am 2 weeks out. It's been a rough recovery. I felt pretty awful for the first few days. I was supposed to stay in the hospital on Tuesday night, but I was so sick (nausea and dry heaving) that they kept me another night. I would have been throwing up, but I couldn't get any liquid down to throw back up... Thank God for Phenergan (the anti-nausea med)! Thankfully, the pain wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected! But, the nausea was a killer, I'm doing so much better now. I still have trouble taking my multivitamin and sometimes get nauseated after I eat (well drink since I'm still on liquids). I was taking Flintstones vitamins before surgery, but now I can't stomach them and all of the other chewable vitamins I've tried make me nauseous too. I also can't do orange flavored things, as it makes my reflux worse. I'd like to find a liquid berry flavored one if they make it. Right now, I found some chewable Centrum berry flavored ones that are OK. They still make me sick to my stomach, but if I take them in the evening it's not as bad.
I lost 10 pounds the first week following my surgery, but now I've hit a stall... I haven't lost anything the past week! In fact, I gained a few pounds! What gives??? I've heard of stalls around the 3rd week or so, but I feel like this is too soon. My diet has remained the same, mostly protein shakes and some soups. I'm getting in all my protein and enough water, so I guess I just have to wait it out, but it's frustrating. I've also started to increase my activity a bit, by taking more walks each day, so hopefully that will help. I didn't really get much exercise the first week, as I felt so sick and weak. But, now I am trying to build back up my stamina.
Sorry it has taken me so long to write an update. Take care everyone.

I had my surgery the day before you did. And I also recently created a thread complaining (whining) that my weight loss seemed to be going very slowly. I had lost around 13lbs but the loss was slowing down to nothing.
So first of all, do NOT worry about the stall. You're going to lose again, but you're still recovering and probably retaining fluids, adjusting to the recent 10lbs loss, and probably a few other things.
The vitamins are important though - someone on here I think recommended Sea Essentials. It's a liquid vitamin I got on amazon and it tastes great. like a tart berry tea.
Are you taking Nexium or anything else for the reflux? My doc has me on it for 2 months. Once a day. It has helped SO much. You should call your doc and ask about it.
and lastly, as many many people wisely told me... RELAX. it will come off.

My doctor took me of my regular multi vitamin and Vitamin D supplement and put me on Bariatric Advantage chewables. I also had an Rx for Zofran and had to use it a few times for nausea but never had any vomiting. I also had a patch behind my ear and a pill I took an hour before surgery to help with nausea and I am guessing it worked really well. He's also taken me off my rx for acid reflux and I'm on a rx call Protonix for three months and I've had no reflux. Too late I know to help you with the nausea just after surgery but the vitamins and Protonix may be something to talk to your doctor about. Good luck!

Sorry to hear you were feeling so cruddy. Glad that things are starting to get better. You will lose the weight. Just relax and try not to worry about it. Take progress pics and measurements either weekly or every other week. Slow and steady wins the race dear!!!

    Folks,
You are going to feel rough for a while, everything needs to be learned again, only this time it hurts if you make a mistake. However that said 131 days ago I took the decision that changed or saved my life. This morning 64 Lbs down, I could not have done it without the VSG.. We were self pay, and it was the best present we could have given each other....... Have a Great VSG Day!!!

Thanks for the words of wisdom. Keep up the good work on your end.
I actually have been taking Dexilant (RX like Nexium) for a few years for reflux/GERD. I took Nexium before and they both help a lot. I also take Zantac over the counter. Actually, my reflux has remained pretty stable since the surgery, no worse (I hope a bit better, but don't want to brag, LOL).
Thank you again for your support!

    Hi,
I actually did have the nausea patch pre-surgery, and I know it had to help some
I was also given Protonix at the hospital and may see if I can get that again if things persist. Thanks!
