Barium swallow

If I have already had an endoscopy then why would the doctor also need a barium swallow? It seems he would have already seen everything during the endoscopy. And just wondering, does anyone know "about" how much the barium swallow costs for those with out insurance? They have not called me back with this info yet. Thx!

I don't have information about the cost, but I can tell you that I had to have both the endoscopy and the swallow test. The swallow test lets them see how strong those muscles are and they can also detect if there may be potential problems with swallowing.

A barium swallow will show the amount of reflux you have. I've taken several in my time and had to take one before my surgery to see if I could have the sleeve or would have to go the RnY route. I have GERD and still was able to have the sleeve.

Well they already left a camera in me for two days to record my reflux. Yet a swallow test will show more? I gotta say I feel these doctors make a sweet deal with the hospital they are connected to so the hospital too can make as much money as possible while he gets an insentive. He already told me I can't have the sleeve done due to my reflux and Hiatal Hernia. So there is no sense in doing the barium swallow, or the others I am scheduled for at this time. Not till after my next doctors appointment where I'll figure out what I'm doing. I love how they schedule things in the wrong order so you end up paying for everything, things you otherwise wouldn't have. Alrighty, rant over ....ignore and carry on... : )
