Default Question regarding hair loss and meds

I'm not going to pour out my despair and heartache that I'm losing hair...because I know the majority of people here either have or are experiencing this as well. I love my hair. It's always been long and thick and beautiful. But, sadly, I, like others here, I've been losing more and more hair. So much even that my hairdresser commented on it a few days ago when she did my hair. Am I going to complain? No. I've lost 60 pounds! I can live with a little hair loss. But, I've been told to take Biotin as this will help. My question is, can I take the gel caps or should I take the chewable kind. The gel caps are a stronger dose so I'm hoping that would help more, lol.

I was put on methotrexate (a chemo drug) about 18 months ago (and got off it within a month due to being violently ill) for rheumatoid arthritis. I wasnt on it long but boy, did my long thick hair thin out FAST. I began Biotin immediately and take it to this day, and it is finally thickening back up. With my sleeve surgery last month, I'm hoping the Biotin helps me. If I lose some more, so be it. It will grow back. I take 10,000 mcg, 2x a day.

I have always had great hair, after sx I lot a ton of hair. I eventually cut it short because it was too thin on the bottom. Now, about 1.5 yrs later, I have my hair back, I still seem to loose a good amount but it is back to normal again.. Yes, you will loose hair but don't worry too much about it, it will grow back....

    Best of luck!

I have been taking pills since surgery, my doctor told me it was ok. NSAIDs are off limits, but everything else is ok, including my large multivitamin.

Collegian Protein along with your biotin will work wonders. For hair skin nails joints guy detox your liver. So many great health benefits.
I add Dr Collagen Multi Collagen Protein powder to my super Body Wake Shaje powder. We loose hair when we don't intake enough good fats.
Good fats are so important for good health especially after sleeve surgery.

I'm thinking by now you are able to swallow pills? The chewables were for early on.

I took pre-natal vitamins and biotin hair and nail supplement and experienced very little hair loss. I truly didn't care about the hair loss since I wear mine very short anyway but I was more freaked out at the thought of losing my nails which have been an inch (or more at times) past my nail bed and all natural with nothing on them other than nail polish since I have been 18 years old.

It won't make any difference what you take.

The stress has already occurred, nothing you can do about it. Hair grows in a cycle, which takes 3 or more months. So, depending on how nourished we are (which is probably not very much since we had weight loss surgery and cannot possible get in enough calories and nutrients with our super limited diet at the beginning), our hair will just be wimpy till we can start "eating" again.

In my case, my hair started growing back around month 9 or 10. I noticed these short little hairs at my front hairline, and gradually, my whole head started feeling thicker again.

I take biotin 10,000 2x a day. I think it definitely helped me. Although you will also have to shave your legs and pits more frequently as well.
