Thanks for the thoughtful response. I'm feeling good hearing about the post op concerns not being that big a deal in the long run. And I am feeling good when I think about the big picture should I have the surgery. Thanks again!

Well said, tinman, as usual you kinda nailed it. If you're not ready to make some serious life changes then maybe it is better to wait until you are ready to make them because without making some concessions to a healthier lifestyle; you probably won't be successful. Therefore, why go through the process...
I don't handle carbonation very well and used to love champagne, however; I have friends who had the sleeve and can still drink beer. I prefer dirty martinis or wine when I imbibe. I do get buzzed quickly and as soon as I eat, it's gone. If I'm out with friends, I might eat before I go out so I can have a couple of drinks, dance and generally have a great time since I now have so much energy. Life might change a bit after surgery (maybe more than a bit but it's way more fun and exciting in a smaller and healthier body; personally speaking!!
Continued success on making this decision and if beer is more important than anything else that's positive about the surgery, step back and reevaluate your decision!

I was honest with my surgeon before I even had surgery and asked when I could drink, because I have always been a drinker. He said for beer to wait at least 6-12 months and to remember that having 1 beer is going to be like having 4. I had half a glass of wine at a Bridal Shower 2 weeks ago and had absolutely no issues and was a bit disheartened that I didn't even have a buzz after being told I was going to become a cheap date, basically. The reason they don't like you drinking liquor and wine is because of the empty calories and sugar, also, a lot of people become alcoholics because they get a buzz so quickly off of so little and yearn for that feeling due to not being able to turn to food.

I used to LOVE to drink. My fav, Long Island iced tea! I am 7 weeks and 1 day post sleeve. My dr said 2 months no alcohol to allow my sleeve to heal. It's Friday night and I've decided it's time. I have heard that it will hit me hard so I am staying away from the tea. I decided on a Mudslide but I can already tell the sugar in it will be the biggest problem, I feel yucky. On the bright side I know that my body can handle it and not hurt as a result of drinking. And, my craving has already been appeased halfway through my drink.

184 and 194 days PO, It Sunday morning here in Cairo, (actually Sat) our weekends are Fri & Sat. Having a lie in after last nights bubbling in the hot tub drinking HydraFit pink with moonshine (160 proof home made) and lots of ice. We did not drink alot compared to the unsleeved, but we did get buzzed. Our hot tub is salt water and kept at 99 Very relaxing and therapeutic, you can easily spend more than an hour bubbling. Back to the point, we can drink a beer it has to be ice cold and poured into a glass, we also drink boxed wine with ice.... Don't tell anyone but even when in Italy we add ice to our wine.... Not in public of course...... You All Have a Great Day.......

Hahahaha. I just pictured you guys drinking your iced wine hiding in your hotel room in Italy. To be fair, Italians don't like ice in really anything. It is more common now but I remember that asking for ice even for soda or water in a restaurant was taboo when I was growing up. Slowly it has become more common place...probably due to all the American tourists. In my area there is a base so that is why it is more common. And I love my wine chilled as well but I usually drink sweet wines which are generally chilled. I had friends over yesterday and we had wine. I chose to go for a stronger wine from Soave region so I could drink a little less and still enjoy my buzz!!

Five years out, and I cannot tolerate beer. I can handle alcohol, I can handle carbonation, but I cannot handle both at once, so beer is basically out. Modelo beer has very little carbonation, I can drink that. I've learned to drink and appreciate wine. People stare at me in biker bars now...and not just because I'm thin and handsome.

I can't even drink sodas. The only carbonated drink I can handle is Stella Artois.

But only one or two. However....I do love me some Stella.

Tinman said it all! I still have 1-3 glasses of wine, several times a week. (Business dinners with the hubs.) You will learn very quickly what works for you and your sleeve.

Interesting I'm the opposite. I can drink beer (but only michelob ultra) and can't handle the sugar in wine.

Yeah...I noticed that also. That's why I asked him what part of humidity hell he lives in.

That's what we Houstonian's call the city we love so dearly. It's especially moist right now because we're dealing with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Cindy. Lots of tropical moisture still left in the atmosphere. Temps in the mid 90's along with the same humidity.

    Still...all in all....I wouldn't live anywhere else.
