Default frustrated...why is it coming off so slowly?

I had my sleeve done on 4/17 - 11 days ago - and I've lost 13 lbs. I know that is ok, but it seems slower than most and most of that was in the first few days. Now I lose maybe .4 or less one day and nothing the next.
I'm 49 years old and my SW was 254 at 5'5".
My typical day is 1/2 a greek yogurt for breakfast with some genepro protein powder mixed in
Lunch is 1/2 a cup of low fat soup
Premier protein shake for a snack
Dinner is either another half cup of soup, or 1/3 of a cup of pureed kidney beans

I walk for around 30 minutes a day and have been getting around 50 oz of water. my total protein intake has been between 60-90grams per day consistently.

Oh, and I'm taking a multi vitamin, b12, D, calcium, and biotin. 2 a day for all of them.

Is there something more I should be doing or is this just how it is and I need to be patient?

You are doing great! Thirteen pounds in eleven days?????? When else have you accomplished that feat??? Up your water intake would be my only suggestion. You need a minimum of 64 ounces a day and more if possible.

Your weight loss is SO not slow!

    Seriously.

Look at my monthly weight losses in my signature block below. Those are the norm around here for women who need to lose around 100 pounds.

This isn't a race. It matters not a whit how fast you lose weight. All that matters is that you reach your goal and (along the way) figure out how you're going to change your lifestyle so you don't regain the weight. THAT is the goal.

    Again, you're doing GREAT!

13 pounds in 11 days and you are complaining?!? I weighed exactly the same as surgery day when I was 11 days postop. Took me 6 weeks to lose 17 pounds and I was ecstatic. I honestly don't know what you expected and who put those expectations in your head. Buck up dear, because your rate of loss is going to slow WAY down here shortly. In fact, get ready to stall and maybe even gain a few pounds. And if you are going to stress over the stupid numbers I strongly suggest staying off the scale for a couple months. You have the your sleeve for the rest of your life.

If you want to do anything different, I would double your fluid intake. Not so you lose faster (which I don't think is even possible), but because 50 ounces is not nearly enough for even basic metabolic requirements, much less the added excercise you are doing. You should be shooting for at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces. (I.e. 200 pounds = 100 ounces)

thank you... I do appreciate the encouragement. When I see what most people have lost in their first month, its always a LOT more than I will have lost. It looks like you lost 30lbs in the month after your surgery and that was after you had already lost a good amount. I didn't diet before my surgery and will be lucky to lose 20.
I know it's not a race, but I thought it would come off a little faster. I've dieted before and lost 20lbs in a month and was eating a lot more than I am now.

Take a look at the signature block below my post to see how "fast" I lost my weight...yep, I lost it a hell of a lot more slowly than you. In addition, I am younger than you, so I should have lost more quickly.

It is time to readjust your expectations. You did not gain the weight overnight and will not lose it overnight. When is the last time you lost 13 pounds in a couple of weeks just by dieting and exercising? 13 pounds in a few weeks is rapid loss.

These groups of people tend to be "fast" losers: men, super-morbidly obese (BMI 50+) people, and males/females under 35 years old. Slower losers are usually older females, "lightweights" who have less than 70 pounds to lose, menopausal ladies, racial/ethnic minorities, and those with metabolic issues (PCOS, hypothyroid, long-standing diabetes, insulin resistance).

Again, it is time to adjust your expectations and stop weighing in so frequently. Put the scale away until your next doctors' visit. It does not matter how "fast" you lose; rather, the important thing is keeping the weight off for life. What's the point of losing rapidly, only to regain the weight? Regain is a common issue in the bariatric surgery community that no one thinks about during the weight loss phase, yet preventing it is more important than losing it.

Good luck to you and cheers to a healthier life.

You might have read her signature statistics incorrectly...she (Ann2) weighed 216 on surgery day, and had gotten to 205 at 1 month post-op. Therefore, she lost a whopping 11 pounds during her first month after the gastric sleeve, not 30 pounds.

You can't compare to anyone because we all lose at different rates. You're losing pretty quickly in my opinion. And you need to relax because when you hit that first stall between weeks 3 and 5 you'll drive yourself crazy. And it happens for pretty much everyone so mentally prepare for it. The farther along you get the more your weight loss will slow down.

LOL! Nope, I didn't lose 30 pounds in my first month post-op -- I lost 11 pounds in Month One post-op. But I did lose 20 pounds pre-op though -- on both my own diet (over 2.5 months) and my doc's required pre-op diet (2 weeks).

Again, thus far you've lost weight faster than most women of your size. You're doing great. Take some deep breaths. Inhale. Exhale.

I was frustrated as well for a week or so because the scale showed nothing changing more than an ounce or two and I am still on all liquids. BUT I feel it in my clothes and I've stopped weighing every day -- going to keep it to once a week and something to look forward to. I know we all want quick results but we have to remember this is not one of the many quick fix diets I've done before and it has to be a lifestyle change or it won't work. I am so happy I found this forum because I think it will give me the encouragement I need and I hope I can help others. Monday is my 3 week post check and I am so looking forward to a meal of what will most closely resemble baby food! Yes, our lives are changing - yea, us!!

I felt the same way, but 13 pounds in 11 days is AWESOME. What I discovered is that I needed to stay off of the scale numerous times a week. It stressed me out. Now I get on once a week and it is much better. I was about the same height and weight as you when I began. I am three month outs and down 44 pounds. It WILL come off, I promise. The soup is really salty, too but you are limited right now to liquids, I know. Hang in there and keep doing what you are doing.

I feel like I am just repeating what so many others have already said.... but it is true.... stop comparing urself to others...I am 6 months out and have lost 52lbs..... while I also feel it should be more, and wish it was more, I am still pleased with my progress....I am not discouraged, only continuing to do what I know I should...I see others who had their surgery after me and have lost more but I don't freak out because I know my body will do what it chooses..I will only have so much control over this ... I have always been a slow loser and this time is obviously no exception.. sleeve or no sleeve...The people who have lost 30 or more in a month or so definitely had more weight to start with from the beginning... U will not lose like that...period...Ur goal is 72 lbs to lose total... without being aware of ur other statistics, u had less to lose than most of us... from the beginning..... relax and accept how ur body is changing.... every one of us has different challenges and specifics regarding this journey... u will lose the weight... just not overnight...just keep doing what u are supposed to be doing..... and stay off the scale!!!!!>>>>good luck....
