Default 1 Month Out - Sleep Apnea and No Pre-op Diet?

    Hey everyone,
I can't believe I'm less than a month out now! I can't help but feel like something is going to happen to delay it again. Trying not to be that way though.

I did just learn I have to go on a CPAP. I went to my sleep study follow up appointment with sort of a cocky attitude because I was so certain I did not have apnea - after all, I was just there because it was one last hoop to jump through. I remember thinking, "yeah, yeah, hurry up, give me my paperwork and I'll be on my way, thanks." and then she said how many episodes I have in a night. It's mild, but I have to take care of it. Sigh.

On another note, I've been pestering my coordinator to tell me what my pre-op diet is going to be because I'm traveling all the country this coming month, all the way up to the day of my surgery (which also requires traveling from WA to OK). She sent me a sheet that basically says to have clear liquids only the day before and nothing after midnight. This was not at all what I was expecting!

Has anyone else had a surgery with Dr. Broussard at Weightwise in OKC? Or did you have a similar experience with your surgery with another doctor? I guess I'm happy about it but then I picture him getting in there and deciding he can't do it because of the size of my liver. As you can guess, I worry a lot. :-)

Boy are you lucky with the pre op liquid diet. I was on clear liquids for close to 10 days, drinking this absolutely horrible smelling ISOPURE protien clear drink (some people on here like it, but I despised it with all my might.) I was counting down the days until surgery. But then, I was supposed to drink this same swill on my first week home too. UGH! I didn't. I drank water (not much) and some broth (not much).

I have sleep apnea and have for many years, only getting a cpap machine in 2010. I may not need it much longer, but I am so attached to it, it really makes me sleep easier. We'll see what happens there.

I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea. I had to have a cpap machine and my dr wanted to make sure I was using the machine at least a month before surgery.

My pre opt diet was 7 days of protein shakes and water or Popsicles. My Dr's gave me this information well before my surgery date.

I received my cpap machine in July 2016 and my surgery was October 2016.

Every pre op is completely different. It is truly whatever the surgeon prefers. Some people have nothing at all. Absolutely nothing. It is not shocking to me at all. As for the apnea, sorry about that. But at least you know it is being taken care of and after surgery you won't need the CPAP before you know it. Good luck!

I have been using a C Pap since January and hate it. One of the reasons at the top of my list to have the surgery. I ca't wait to get rid of it, I cant tell the difference between sleeping with it or with out it. The mask mask is another story....ugh!

    Blessings!

I had to go on a CPAP, and I had to have a compliance visit with the Pulmonist (basically read the chip in my CPAP to make sure I was using it). Between getting the CPAP and surgery it was about 5 months.

I had no pre-op diet except for approx. 48 hours before surgery. Clear liquids 24 hours out was all that was really required.

I had absolutely no issues with surgery, no real pain (except gas pains) and was up and back to relatively normal with 4 - 5 days.

Do what your doctor recommends for pre op diet and everything else along your journey. Every surgeon has their own protocol, no right or wrong. Continued success!
