    Default Gained some weight

I went back yesterday for my second cervical block. The first time I went on April 4th I weighed 102. This time I was 108. The nurse exclaimed "You've gained weight!" I sure have. I told her that since the last block I've been HUNGRY. I can't stop eating. The steroid in that epidural are no joke. Those pounds were welcome ones, but I certainly won't be thrilled to continue to gain that way after each epidural. I've got to figure out how to get this appetite under control despite the steroids telling me to eat everything in sight. I can't afford to go buy another whole wardrobe of clothing if I out grow these.

Wouldn't you know I typed that whIle stuffing my face with a spicy chicken breast, mashed potatoes, and a biscuit from Popeyes.

I am sure you will be fine. How long will you continue to get the steroid shots?

I'm not sure, Christie. So far I don't have abother one scheduled yet. I had about a 25% - 30% improvement in my neck after the first one, so hoping this one provides even more. The suck thing is that the pain all originated in my shoulder. Ive had zero improvements there despite multiple steroid shots injected directly into the trigger points. I cant even pick up the baby anymore, and that breaks my heart. I just can't believe how painful it all is. I feel like a lame horse that needs to be put down. My husband will not oblige me. I start wearing a brace tomorrow, so I have hope that will help. These steroids aren't doing it. Just finished eating two little Debbie snack cakes and two bags of chips. The hunger is real.

Yes, steroid hungry is real and so will the forthcoming emotions (for me, at least), primarily anger. So, you'll be "hangry" - hungry and angry. Been there, done that, have stretch marks and buried bodies from it. Okay, the best thing is that this is temporary and a lot of times when I got my back blokes, my hangry eventually turned into more of an oral fixation then the need to consume. So, for me, it was easier to work with the fixation than an actual need to eat.

From prior posts, I think I remember reading that you wanted to gain some weight back and you have, but some of your weight gain is water. Steroids tend to make people retain water and maybe that's happening to you along with the need to eat. I don't know... but remember, this is temporary.

Perhaps when you eat, think of loading up on "clean" protein (no Popeye's, good chicken though) and good, healthy eating. My cravings were for protein - small animals were kept away from me at all times. I think going back to the original goal of a VSG-er to eat protein and then veggies will help a lot. Exercise will help with the rage. As for the oral fixation; well, gum (though it may give you gas), sugar free gummie bears, etc.

I've had so many back and neck shots, blocks, etc. and puffed out like a blow fish and ate like a starving cannibal for at least a couple of days. I really feel your pain. Remember, it will pass, you got this - YOU CAN HANDLE THIS! YOU ARE A WINNER!
