    Cool Surgery Today

This morning I came in for my gastric sleeve. I am still very tired and sore, mostly from the gas. I was very nauseous after I woke up and continued on until this evening from the anesthesia. I walked around quite a bit today, and have had hiccups like crazy! Has anyone ever had hiccups after their surgery? I am hoping that I can start passing this gas soon (sorry for the tmi) but it will really help with this pain I am having in my chest and back.

Walk every hour and it will help. My husband would pat my back and burp me like a baby. That helped, too. Good luck with your healing. The first few weeks are the hardest.

Wishing you a speedy recovery! Welcome to this side of life!

When I woke up I felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest and had discomfort taking deep breaths. Having had practice Bikram and Kundalini yoga in the past I immediately started practicing deep breaths which helped tremendously, I was discharged about two hours after surgery and did really well at home. I walked the halls of apartment building every half hour I was awake, and on day two or three I got on the treadmill to walk slowly for 5-10-15-20 and finally 30 minutes increments. My instructions said to walk 30-60 minutes daily.

I didn't experience gas pains, except my stomach rumbling, but not painful at all.

To the best of your ability stay hydrated and follow your nutrient intake instructions.

Thank you! I won't be discharged from hospital until tomorrow (Thursday) so I am doing the best I can walking the floor of the hospital I am in. I am drinking sips of water and is chips still as of this morning. And on IV fluids. I plan on walking a lot more when I get home, as long as the weather permits me.

Congrats! I'm about a week and a half out from my surgery date. It took me a week to feel close to normal, but now I have a ton of energy and very little pain (by belly is still a little sore).

Congratulations and wishing you a fast recovery! I never had hiccups after surgery ( or gas pain), and I notice I get them now if I drink my water to quickly. That's my warning that I need to SLOW on down.

Yes, the gas is terrible. Your lucky you never had that problem after. I can NOT get rid of this gas for anything. I am constantly walking trying to get of it but am not able to pass it for anything. Little burps here and there but that's it aside from these darn hiccups haha.
I think I'm on the road to a speedy recovery. The Dr and my nurses are very surprised at how well I am moving around and acting today so I will definitely be going home tomorrow. YAY!

The more you walk, the more the gas will go away. Hope you continue to recover well.
