This has happened pretty quickly for me. I'm worried about long term success, not about the surgery in particular. Anyone else having surgery in early May?
Just remember that surgery is just one more tool not the entire solution. You can have long term success in my opinion if you follow the whole plan which is eating right staying hydrated and exercise.
What Donald said is true. You HAVE to work at it to have your new tool do its thing. Your mind hasn't been sleeved, so there is a mental aspect that you need to work on. I'm grateful I had 3 months before surgery to get my act together, change my eating habits and succeed, and I did.

responding to DesertGal (how do you reply to one of the posts?) Wow you're down so much in just a month, great work! And that's amazing that you had 3 months to prepare and get on track. I know this is going to be jumping into a cold pool. I've lost weight many times before, reached goal weight on my own...but now that I'm 40 it's just not working for me anymore. I'm ready for the change. But I'm delaying the pre-op diet. My doctor says I only need to do the pre-op diet for about a week. So, I start that in a few days.
I am having my sleeve surgery one week from today (May 1st) with Dr Graf in Gilbert, AZ.
I'm having serious difficulty adhering to my liquid diet. I just want a piece of chicken and some broccoli! LOL
but I'm being good. I'm having a V8, a huge glass of water and another of this Mexican Tortilla Soup Broth from Swansons. It's super spicy so I'm happy enough I guess. It's all about willpower and as much as I feel like I just want to eat something, I know that this is all going to be worth it.
some of the good advice I've been given is to give it your 100% all in the first 6 months, because that's when all your weight loss will be easy and quick and the sleeve will do its job. After that it won't necessarily be harder but it will be slower. so go into it guns blazing, doing what you're supposed to do 100% of the time.

I've lost 20 pounds since surgery, most in the last 2 weeks but the remaing weight I lost on the pre op diet the surgeon required of me.
I lost 60 lbs. in 1990, gained it back; I lost 20 here, 20 there from mid 90s and gained it back; lost 60 lbs. again in 2005, gained it back in a year; and lost 53 lbs. in 2012 only to gain 90 lbs back within 18 months from being on steroids for a year. ( I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and at the same time I was having Achilles tendonitis from my year on the elliptical at the gym.)Then my achilles tore off the bone and I had surgery and MORE steroids. I've never gained so much weight so quickly. I lost weight at the gym by exercising faithfully and injured myself into a fat mess!

Your story sounds so similar to mine. I've gotten to goal weight on my own a few times. Now that I'm 40 it's just not working anymore I lost hope a few years ago and it just kept moving downhill from there. I am praying the hope I need will come in the form of this surgery.
