    Default Quote of the Day!

"Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being excited about what could go right!"

Seriously guys, there is too much whining on these boards. (Now I'm not talking about the very few of you who have major complications.) "I'm so worried about saggy skin." "What if I lose my hair?" "I can't stick to the pre-op diet." "Other people lose faster than me." "I can't get in my protein and liquids." Or the best, "I only lost 40 pounds in 2 months, I'm so depressed, what's wrong with me?"

So let's get excited! We have this amazing tool that will take us from being obese to being a regular-sized person. A positive attitude will take you ANYWHERE! I can tell you life as a regular-sized person (as compared to being a fat person) is AMAZING!

    I'm with you, sraebaer.

Coming up on 3 years post-op I'm just as excited about this surgery as I was pre-op. It has changed my life for the better in incredible ways.

Y'all, if you simply do what your surgeon expects you to do one day at a time, it will so exceed your expectations! One day at a time. That's all you ever have to do.

Surgery of this nature can be scary and there can be complications. These boards are for people who have questions and concerns in addition to celebrating successes. So please don't make those who have questions and concerns, no matter how trivial they seem to you, feel bad about expressing them and coming here for answers or looking for individuals who have shared similar concerns or experiences.

That being said, it's the best decision I have made for my personal health!

YES!!! This surgery has been amazing. All my complications were bearable. My worst being the chronic constipation. I have one regret...waiting so long to take the plunge!!

Sorry, but the "I have only lost (insert very large number) pounds in (insert very small number) weeks", or worrying more about saggy skin and hair loss than being fat and unhealthy drives me batty, but I guess that's just me. And I'm not talking about complications. I'm just saying that being excited and positive will help you immensely along on this journey. I'm recovering from a broken neck and ribs at the moment, and could sit around feeling sorry for myself eating snickers bars. But instead I'm sticking to the plan, doing physical therapy (hurts!!), and starting slowly back into my exercise routine. There will always be setbacks, but life is what you make it. And I choose to look on the bright side!

This surgery has been the best for me. I AM thankful for it. I'm a newbie, and I've asked questions unknown to me (especially sorry for my last one yesterday asking if there is a certain amount of weight any of you were advised to lose per month, per your surgeon). I didn't mean to whine. Sorry. Won't happen again.

    Height: 5'8"
    Highest Weight: 270 BMI 40.3
Day of Surgery Weight: 223 / Pre-Op nutrition diet: LOST 47 pounds
1 Month Weight: 202 (-21 lbs.) TOTAL LOST: 64 pounds
2 Month: Weight: 188 (-14 lbs.) TOTAL LOST: 78 pounds
    6 Month Weight: 169 (-2) BMI: 25.7 TOTAL LOST: 97 pounds

No, sorry if I came off wrong. We ARE here to answer questions, and that was just a question, not a complaint. Happy things are going well for you!!

Thanks for the post! Here's a few of my favorites (at least five more days worth )......

"If you're going through hell keep going." --Winston Churchill

"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out." --Robert Collier

"The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary." --Vidal Sassoon

Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice." --Wayne Dyer

If you focus on results you will never change. If you focus on change you will get results.

Don't be sorry, and it is true some folks just don't or don't want to get it! I have been in the forum long enough to see those folks get psyched about a process they hardly know about and then dissappear, to come back wondering why they are not losing enough! Granted I may have posted once about my frustration with a low month loss, but it was more about what my meals looked like and it turned out I may have been eating more unwanted simple carbs than I needed. But a lot posts start and finish "help I am not losing!" but they are not willing to reveal what they eating. or if they are following the post op recommendations as prescribed. Their no loss concerns are posted numerous of times, a day, a week, not to mention a month... and folks who have may have posted about a real life threatening concern may be overlooked because the others posts about "why am I stalled" are pushing them further down the line.

So I think it is okay so remind newbies, even if it comes off unempathetic (word?), that the Sleeve Gastrectomy is not a magic wand that will make all their weight dissappear in a week, that they research and get to learn about their metabolism and new digestive system, and the process of losing weight through weight loss surgery.

    So sorry, but not sorry.
