    Default Newbie from MI

Hi everyone! I am planning on getting the sleeve this summer in Mexico with Dr. Corvala. Did anyone go to him? I am very scared about this surgery. Even though I've been overweight since middle school, I have lost weight before. Unfortunately, I just self-sabotage and gain the weight back when my anxiety is bad. I am hoping this will be the tool I need for long term change. Does anyone have any advice???

    Hi Megan!

I am having the sleeve done in September and completely know the feeling!!
Joining this page is a positive step as everyone is in the same boat and the advice is fantastic. I am seeing the dietician and psychologist in a couple months so it'll get pretty real then. Welcome to the page and I'm sure you'll find loads of people who can help you both pre-op and post-op!
    Have a super day!
    Al

Welcome Megan. Please mentally prepare for the process. It is not a magic bullet but a tool to help you get to where you need to go. I can tell you if you have issues with self sabotage you may struggle with the sleeve. You need to learn to eat right. I suggest that you get some pre and post op therapy for your eating issues. Good luck.

The advice I'd like to offer is to definitely do it! Follow the rules set by your doctor and you'll be fine. The pre-op diet may not seem important to a lot of people, but it really is! You don't want to add any extra added worry during surgery. I hope to see in the future that you're posting that you had it!

Just remember you will have to change your lifestyle for good. It would be really easy to gain back weight lost with the sleeve, just eat junk at frequent intervals.

My life for the past 3+ years has been following our "rule of two." Everything my hubby cooks (love him!) involves a protein and a veggie. It's just how we do it. He didn't have the surgery, but I couldn't have done this without him! If I have carbs or sugar it's very infrequently and in very small amounts. I have been able to maintain my weight loss by changing my brain and exercising. (This from a person who rarely ate meat before, just carbs, no wonder I was obese.)

So do your research before you have the surgery, you have some changes ahead. But I can promise they are totally worth it!!

Oh, I know it's not a magic bullet. I'm prepared for that, but it seems like people's experiences with the surgery is so different. I'm so afraid I'll be sick or something will really get screwed up. I've been going to therapy for years, so I'm good there. I know myself well, but I think this tool will keep me on the straight and narrow.

Thank you for the advice. I'm sort of surprised how many people gain back the weight if you can only eat certain things without feeling uncomfortable. But like you said, if they eat a little bit of crap food a lot, it would add up.

    Actually it is pretty magical.
