    Default Painful to eat

I was just wondering when most people found they could actually enjoy eating after their sleeve? I am about five weeks out and I find it painful it eat most times. It is like it gets stuck half way down. It doesn't seem to matter how small of bites or how slow I eat. I also find that my food is cold by the time I have got a few bites down so I don't enjoy it. I assume it will eventually get better. I was just curious when on average people noticed that they could actually enjoy what they were eating again. I don't want to enjoy it too much though!

I am 12 weeks out and it still hurts if I eat too much. I am still only eating about 3 ounces at a time. I realize that it could take 6 to 9 months for my stomach to really be able to recover and accept food without any trouble. For now I focus on protein and liquids. I feel great! I actually started to have a ton of soup in the last few weeks and it is really helping. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.

I bought one of those plates you heat up in the microwave and it keeps your food warm for up to 45 minutes. I started eating regular foods at about 3 months. I was able to power down lentils with andouille sausage and cottage cheese at about three weeks, but, that was it until the third month. My procedure was August 23rd and my first real deal full meal with no repercussions was the Thanksgiving meal.

Same here, while I tried to eat according to my suggested stages I found myself staying longer on liquids, and my soft foods stage overlapped my regular food stage, and even now if I don't chew the heck out my food there is a tightness burning sensation when I eat chicken breast or a heavier meat or sometimes if I eat over four hours since my last meal. Someone suggested to chew a couple of Tums when that happens and it seems to work.

While it was annoying then, I welcome those little alarms to remind me to chew better, eat slower and be conscious of the present. I used to mindlessly eat and often are a whole plate of food without realizing it.

I've had no pain swallowing food or it getting stuck, but yeah, what I eat is COLD! Nothing like a cold scrambled egg. (I'll check into that plate.)

Food doesn't get stuck except once when I took a bite of a piece of pineapple, got side tracked and didn't chew it enough and it got stuck talk about pain it was awful and a little scary. Normally if I eat slow and stop as soon has I'm starting to feel full I'll be fine but if I eat another bite or two I'll be uncomfortable at times a little painful with what feels like gas or air trapped and I'll take gasx for some relief.
Hope you feel better. I had to go back from the Purée stage and stay longer in the full liquid stage.

I just started the soft-food, puree stage and if I eat too fast and don't chew enough, I get horrible gas pain. I'm having a tough time to remember to chew. I'm still half on protein shakes because that's my instructions. The pain is only rough if I eat too much or too fast or both at the same time and it's a little scary. I won't be able to start "real" food for 2 more weeks and it's a little scary, too. From all that I've read, it is suggested that all real food should be soft like fish/seafood, or moistened with some gravy/sauce to help it go down. I was told that anything dry (chicken breast) will get stuck easily. Moist is the optimal word - everything should be moist. Good luck and let us know how it goes and any tips that you learn, please share.

I still can have discomfort if I eat too much or too fast. It has gotten exponentially better than it was in the beginning. I still don't eat too much but I am just over 5 months post op.

I don't have the plate anymore so I can't tell you the brand. However, I do recall that I purchased it off of Amazon.

I am in the same boat....it is to the point that I just hate having to eat. I try to eat slow and chew very thoroughly, but I always feel gross after I eat. My surgery was February 27th, I was hoping it would be better by now. Plus, getting in enough water is a nightmare.....I am taking it day by day, so I will be following whomever answers you.

Well I thought I was doing good with my water intake and eating was becoming so much easier but ended up in hospital this morning passing a kidney stone. That was way more painful then the surgery! But feel better now that it has passed. I didn't realize that kidney stones can be an issue after this surgery. I knew gall bladder problems could be. Has anyone else had problems with kidney stones since surgery?

Goodness gracious! What an experience. I've never had a kidney stone but have had gall stones. So sorry to hear that you've been through hell but glad that it is working itself out. All the best!
