home from hospital and i manged to gain 8 pounds

Has anyone experienced this? Wednesday prior to surgery I was 247, today when I got home from the hospital I was up to 255. What thheck???? All I have had is water and a couple of sips of broth.

That would be from the iv it's common and in a couple days you'll be down 15. glad to hear though that your home which means surgery went well.

Yes!!!! It's water weight from the I.V fluids they gave you. It will go away and you will be lighter in no time. Glad to hear your home and I'm guessing surgery went well.

Oh I hear you! I dropped 13 immediately upon getting home but nothing has moved down on the scale since. I KNOW I am losing because each day, the one pair of smaller shorts I bought, are so much looser and I have to take a top from my daughter's closet because mine look something Barnum and Bailey's Big Top Circus tent would fit people into. When my scale moves, I will be happy. But for now, I am happy anyway.

It is common due to the fluid retention. You have nothing to worry about! Congrats on making it through surgery.

Salt water (saline) will make you retain water. Don't worry about the scale for 7 days.

Thanks all! Today is day 2 post op. I have not gotten back on the scale. Still on liquids until tomorrow at which time I'll be on full liquids for about 10 days I have already noticed some of the bloating subsiding and I am urinating a lot. All I've had so far post op is water and a little bit of broth. Everything seems to go down ok except when it hits top of stomach then there is this dull to sharp pain. I guess that's from the hernia repair.

You all are great for responding with your own experiences. Soooo helpful.

It took me awhile to figure out how much I had lost due to being in and out of the hospital and all the IV fluids. You're fine, you've lost weight and will keep losing, don't panic! lol!

It's all the fluids from the IV and your body holding onto liquids. It happens at time. Don't worry, it will come off. All the best.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I can feel the bloating subsiding. I will stay away from the scale for a few more days.

Happens to almost all of us. I know it makes no sense, but it happens. I remember being frustrated too. Put your scale away for a month!! Follow the rules and you will lose weight, and fast, I promise.

Hi I had the same thing and I feel the same way at times I've taken the nausea pill when I feel it for a while and deff goes away then ... it's hard now to figure out what all these sounds and feelings are inside us now isn't it crazy ... I'm on day 4 haven't finished a complete shake yet I know I. Wed to improve in that but hey I'm full I'm full dr said that's ok and I'm deff doing better with water in take today ... I got my mental cycle day I came home from hospital so that jammed me up alittle bit but I think it just lasted two days and I'm hoping that stays that way LOL female struggle on top of this wasn't needed but I survived and deff feeling much better. And I decided I wasn't going on scale u too my one week post op apt I feel like that will give me something to look forward too and if I don't have results she can explain lol and I'm not worrying Bc if I u derstans correctly I'm walking all over my house doing laps every time I use the bathroom but until the one week I don't then we are suppose to do more then that? .... best of luck! Don't stress test weight we have our wholes life for that now just focus on your water and protein shake In take

We are surgery buddies. I had mine on the 5th also. Finally all the water weight disappeared as of today. I like you am not getting in all the protein. I'm getting in one shake a day over the course of the entire day. Doing sugar free popsicles, broths, and low fat strained cream soup. I could hardly tolerate the shakes before the surgery and now, it is even harder to do so. I do not like the sweetness of them. Look forward to following your journey in comparison to mine to see the similarities.

I would recommend trying a diff brand of shakes ... have you done premier protein? Maybe try diff ones bc I think doing the protein shake over anything else is most important ... today I'm on shake number two very excited we'll see how much of it I actually finish but at least I had a whole one in the course of the day! I also showered today hahah deff took my time on doing that but felt like it was time ... not easy but managed Lol if u want a list of brands of shakes my dr gave me lmk I'll be happy to tell you .... best of luck!
