Default No weight Is Coming Off!

I know, I know, I swore I wouldn't weight myself for another month but I stepped on the scale this morning. I have not dropped a pound in 7 days. (Surgery was only 10 days ago.) WTH? My clothing feels loose, but the damn scale isn't budging. I'm drinking my protein shakes. I am drinking water. I'm walking 2 miles a day. My food intake isn't anything to write home about.... SOUP... and I can't shed a pound. Talk about DISAPPOINTED!

    Height: 5'8"
    Highest Weight: 270 BMI 40.3
Day of Surgery Weight: 223 / Pre-Op nutrition diet: LOST 47 pounds
1 Month Weight: 202 (-21 lbs.) TOTAL LOST: 64 pounds
2 Month: Weight: 188 (-14 lbs.) TOTAL LOST: 78 pounds
    6 Month Weight: 169 (-2) BMI: 25.7 TOTAL LOST: 97 pounds

I hear you. I had similar experience. It seems all I remember was how many had lost weight immediately. Reread posts from others. So many factors are in play. Weight loss measured by scale is different for all of us. The wonderful thing is that you are seeing clothes fitting looser.

Use other measurements other than scale. My big moment was having blood pressure taken 3 weeks after surgery and it was a very healthy normal without any drugs. If you are feeding your body right, like you are, everything will fall into place and you will be so grateful.

I lost 13 pounds the first 3 days following surgery and then BOOM! Nothing. I was taken off my blood pressure meds the day of surgery and my PCP told me to stay off them. I don't see her for another 3 weeks. My blood pressure had dropped to normal levels in the prior 3 months before surgery, from the diet I was on (41 pounds lost.)
I just walked another 5 laps and logged in almost 1.75 miles so far. A few more zips around my little trail before the end of the day to get in my 2 miles. Feeling a little sluggish but not as bad as it could be.

I think with the pre op diet you were on and the mistake you made at the beginning of your post op period that you threw your body into starvation mode.
I would suggest upping your protein intake from shakes and food. I am sure the weight will come off soon but you lost so much from pre op to your 1st 4 days post op that your body is fighting back.

You are losing all the water weight right now too. The IVs in the hospital skew the results too. I would bet you gained 5-10 lbs just off the IVs in the hospital. Don't worry too much just stick the plan, hydrate and protein with walking in between.

Thanks guys. I need to hear something positive. I have had my head in the clouds apparently. I just figured how well I did dieting beforehand was the hard part. I assumed (never assume anything) that with the protein shakes, the broth and soup and walking, I would be losing a pound a day easily. Ha!

We all go through it, just stay off the scale for a while. Get in your minimum protein and water, and you'll be fine. Promise.

I know it makes no sense, and I remember being frustrated too. Seems impossible to eat nothing and not lose weight, but your body is adjusting, and soon the weight will start falling off.

You will, especially when you get your protein levels up so your body will relax and start burning your fat reserves.

I just drank my 2nd protein shake for the day, and walked almost 2 1/2 miles today. I'm pooped, done for the day.
I will stay off the scale. And I know my body is adjusting I have to have faith that it all will click.
I bet that 13 pounds I lost immediately after surgery was all from IV fluids. My hands had swelled to little puffed up mounds while in the hospital, as was my stomach and limbs.
    Off for a nap...

Remember, this is a marathon and not a sprint. I too have jumped on the scale too many times and it only frustrates me sometimes. Told myself I am only going to do it once a week at the most. Brain and body is going through a major adjustment. Be patient. If you are following the plan and not cheating you will be fine! You are probably also adding lean muscle with the protein and exercise. I am paying more attention to how my clothes fit now instead of the scale. Good Luck!

Slow and steady wins the race!

It appears, from your photo, that you and I probably have similar BMI to begin with and I too have been discouraged at times. I've accepted that my weight loss is going to seem slower than some because I didn't have as much weight to lose. Stalls are normal then you step on the scale one day and boom, down 3 pounds or so. It didn't seem that I was losing anything at all until I could eat food. When I can get in 800-900 calories in a day I seem to lose,.. less than that and I seem to stall. It might be a bit before you work your way out of what you body may interpret to be starvation. I think what you are experiencing is probably pretty normal for someone as small as you were to begin with.

It will come off. Patience young grasshopper! I will tell you that it is entirely possible you are eating too little. When I eat too little and don't get enough protein my weight loss stalls. When I up my calories, which I sometimes have to force myself to do as I don't feel hungry, then I start losing again. Remember to take pictures and measurements! It will come off!

I still don't think 'Young Grasshopper' is eating enough. I'm just too hungry to be considered full. I ate some of the vegetable soup at dinner and had only 1/4 of the packaged sugar free choc pudding and had to stop because I think I was full. But its been an hour and a half and I am HUNGRY again. This soup sucks. I need something heavier (hence, the question about creamed soups.) Scrambled eggs sound GOOD about now. Just a few more days!!!!
