Default how long to build endurance?

All, I've lost enough now that I can ride an upright mountain bike around the neighborhood for exercise instead of a recumbent at the gym. Weird thing....real bikes use totally different muscles than recumbent gym bikes. Or maybe its because I can't set the resistance too low! :-)

Anyway, I rode a quick mile track around my neighborhood that we usually walk and my thighs were BURNING. If I rode 3-4 times a week doing the same course around the neighborhood, how long would it take to build up endurance to go further? I know, "it depends" on lots of things....I just mean in general how long does it take one to build endurance?

Realistically in a week or so you would be able to do more. The burning wears off after a few times of exercising...then you can add more.

Endurance is about repetition and consistency, so the more you do get on your bike the better you will get.

I went walking in my (new) neighborhood, which is like surburbia out of Modern Family. Drivers (soccer moms) are crazy and rude and inpatient! One thing I hated about Southern California is the cement jungle and it's not vety pedestrian friendly! I miss the cool shade of Spanish Oaks and walking by overgrown yards in my old neighborhood!

I hope I build my resistance in not throwing my shoe at someone every time they drive too fast by me lol!

    Best wishes!

Congrats on your hard work. If you keep going for half an hour or more every day, or even every day that you're not still sore from previous rides, my experience has been that your endurance will build quickly, especially as you develop a rhythm and routine you really like. You should be able to ride a bit longer every week, just a ballpark, ten minutes or so depending on a million factors. Keep up the good work!
